BRETT MILLER DS 1 “MONDO-MIJ” MOD question

Hi,

I am trying to do this mod. I wonder if I can use 1uf electrolytic caps on C8 and C14.

Instructions says "metal film" caps but there are polarized caps on my DS1 board...

Edit: I guess I can answer my own qustion : No, the idea is to change the type of caps, values are the same. I only have these :




Is there any interest changing 1uF electrolytics for them ?

IMHO, stay away from tantalum caps..
(big grey box cap should be OK..)

Thanks, it fits in the enclosure easily.

I am tryng to build the diode  section (p.21). My usal suppliers don't have 2n3859, any idea if  2n4401 will work here ?

Looks like i really need a smaller B100k, a regular one won't fit. I drilled the pot location on "dist"...

I received a small B100k pot and I finally finished this mod (on a real DS-1).

I am using a 2N3053 instead of 2N3859A (out of production I guess). I left the collector leg empty.

Everything sounds fine, but I wonder if it's ok if none of the 3mm red leds lights up at any setting ?

Should I do something with the 2N3053 collector leg ?

Any advice would be welcome !

You can't always see LEDs light up when they are clipping. Extremely dim usually. Maybe in the dark with a heavy boosted signal, max gain...flicker.
