Next to my name on my posts, I see

Total likes: 283

That means I have a Signal to Noise ratio of 283/1116 ie 25.36 percent

What's your S/N ratio ?

iainpunk

2460 over 1448, so 58.86%

i guess that isnt truely fair to older users, since there was a time before there were likes, also a lot of likeless users who were extremely helpful in their day.

yes, but, if you make ten posts, and ten people like just one of those posts, doesn't that somewhat skew your ratio?

Those with thousands of posts before there was a 'like button' and not so active after it appeared, have totally skewed irrelevant S/N ratios, can't compare.

We rate those on the Lindley scale.  Right now I'm at about 4.7 picoLindleys.

I really thought you must have been meaning something les obvious.
But no  :icon_mrgreen: it really is what I read in the title.
Now we need components boosting this ratio.

Oh, goodie! Another way to divide people!   :icon_lol:   I'm only ~16%.

I'd be very in favor if I was 35 or 40%, ha ha.

There's also the other side of the coin,

https://hbr.org/1993/09/why-incentive-plans-cannot-work

"As for productivity, at least two dozen studies over the last three decades have conclusively shown that people who expect to receive a reward for completing a task or for doing that task successfully simply do not perform as well as those who expect no reward at all. These studies examined rewards for children and adults, males and females, and included tasks ranging from memorizing facts to creative problem-solving to designing collages. In general, the more cognitive sophistication and open-ended thinking that was required, the worse people performed when working for a reward. Interestingly enough, the researchers themselves were often taken by surprise. They assumed that rewards would produce better work but discovered otherwise."

I remember a story of a company where managers received reviews from employees.   The managers would have meetings solely to coerce and con people.  Managers used time stamps on "anonymous" submissions to track down people who gave bad reviews then "arranged" for those people to be sacked.   These were often the good workers who knew their stuff and spoke out.   None of this resulted in any increased productivity, the whole workplace was orientated  with this mentality not just managers.  Bizarre but true.

I believe you have to include the cheese multiplier to get a meaningful number.
S/N ratio apparently does not affect the cheese.

a better question is, if S/N ratio doesnt affect cheese, then why does it affect cheesecake? cheesecake doesnt have cheese in it... also, why is the End made of cheese and obsidian? and why havent we build any chorus pedals using chorus fruit?
