literally a solasound tonebender mk3 with a couple mods
built on the excellent tagboardeffects.blogspot.com vero layout
but
i made mine npn, so turn the electros and diode around.... with some big-ass old cold war era russian 404's. they're FREEKIN HUGE.
but man, they sound sweet.

also included the platetoplate brit face mod, a ge diode to "compensate" for leakage. this needs to be reversed for npn use. check the diode. some of the ones out there have the ANODE banded, not the CATHODE.

hfe's were 50ish 80ish 120ish

all mcc's. radial electros, 25v

i DID add power supply filtering and protection, a 400x, a 2n2 and 100uf between the rails. overkill, yeah, whatev

250k output pot is the big mod. whoo hoo. gives a rch more oomph on the output.

keeper. delishy.

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

I've got a little stash of those 404s -- better get crackin! I guess size does matter. Did you find you had to be concerned about leakage?

Happy & Merry, everyone.

happy chanukah bro!

size.... hahahah that's what she sai.... ummm...

yeah! leakage!

leakage is what it is. i found in q1, a really leaky q sounds great. if it leaks enough that you can reverse beta it and not be sure which way is correct, that appears to be perfect!

but basically, just make sure q2 n 3 are hotter than q1, and you should be good.

i'm in new england, so temp is always an issue. the brit face mod helps some.... but not enough.
i noticed last nite it was barely hitting unity gain, so i paralleled another 220k resistor at the output and that helped bring up the output a little again. i expect i should replace it with something more like a 10k or 22k to get more output, but it did seem to change the tone just slightly, and i'm experimenting with this double stick tape crap made by superglue they sell at dollar tree stores to hold the vero down with.
ya gotta quadruple it in thickness, but that shit holds on great! so i don't wanna have to take the board out to work on it.... cuz panky is one lazy ol' foo'....
