Here's my plan. A 12v/5ah motorcycle battery. Wire it to 2 7809 voltage regulators. Run daisy chains off each regulator, 1 for preamp pedals and 1 for pedals in the effects loop. The inconvenience would be having to charge the moto battery, but would I defeat the dreaded hiss/hum that started this search in the first place. Thanks for any opinions.

His should not be a power issue. Most supplies the buzz overwhelms any hiss. A bad supply can hiss, and simple hiss can easily be filtered.

These days "hiss" is more often multiple pedals AND WiFi etc with digital circuits interacting with each others.

If you do the battery, remember its fumes can be very corrosive.

Thanks. I didn't think about lead acid charging fumes. I have no digital pedals, and sounds like I wont in the future. So maybe a filter circuit is what I should try first.

Why not use a more modern battery like lithium-ion.  It will be far lighter and less hassle.

Sounds like your needs could be met by a common USB powerbrick with a stepup converter

12V/5Ah lead-acid battery is "inconvenient" by itself.. :icon_wink:
(about 5 lbs weight and 5A fast charging current..)
