Im building a dead end fx oiolosse(clone of midnight amplification holy mountain). R3 calls for a 61k resistor. I'm wondering if this is supposed to be a 62k or possibly a 51k resistor. because 61k resistors are not available as far as i can see. Ive read another thread from june where another builder had issues in this same area of the circuit. if anyone has some input or advice it would be much appreciated. thanks

In general 1.6% tolerance is negligible but is there a schematic that shows what this R3 is doing?

You can always solder two or three resistors together to get 61k. Like 47k + 3k3 + 10k for exemple.

there is a link to build doc and schematic. it doesnt look like they used two resistors in the photo of completed board but it could be hiding under the j201 board.

It is unlikely that the value is critical. It is like what you call a "stopper", a series R on the Gate of the first JFET, but the 220k to ground makes it part of a voltage divider, a "pad" that drops the input level by about 1/4, maybe to keep it clean?

Weird input stage: No decoupling cap, just 1M pulldown, the "61k" series R, and then a 220k to ground to "bias" the JFET. No DC so no cap? No DC then why the "pulldown?"

I would assume the 1M pulldown is for anything that is leaking in from something connected before the circuit (?)  I mean, it may be charging the 10p Miller capacitance, LOLOL.

This is just trying to be a triode gain stage.  Many tube amps have no input caps.  I would have used one to take advantage of the opportunity for some tone shaping, since it's not going to sound quite like a real triode anyway!
