multiple circuits on the same board

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new at building pedals. I'm thinking about putting a Fuzz Face circuit and a Green Ringer one on the same circuit board (point-to-point), and I wonder if it's as simple as connecting the output of the Fuzz Face circuit with the input of the Green Ringer circuit, or if I have to alter something. I'd appreciate it a lot if anybody can give me any advice on this.

Welcome to the forum.
You don't want to be able to turn on only one? Or changer the order?

You are planning on NPN or PNP fuzz face? (because + and - ground on one board is trickier.)

You probably don't need to change anything. Same as having them in separate boxes.

mrmet5

Thank you, idy.
This is just for an experiment project, so yes, 2-in-1 is what I want to build.
And sorry I should have specified; it's an NPN circuit.

iainpunk

hey,

yes you can just throw them on the same board, they don't require massive amounts of power anyway, so no need to worry.

i would suggest to put the green ringer before a fuzz instead of after, this gives a better, clearer, and less "mosquito in a jar"-like

there would be a chance of ''bad interaction'' between the circuits, to keep bad interaction from happening, you can put a 1k to 10k resistor between the Ginger's output and the Face's input, but only if its necessary.

friendly reminder: all holes are positive and have negative weight, despite not being there.

Hey aren't you lainPunk on Reddit?!

Anyways, thanks man! I just did the opposite (fuzz-green ringer) and actually liked it a lot but I shall now do what you suggested!
In the end though I'd like to be able to switch in the Green Ringer, so it's more like a Fuzz Face (with Green Ringer) kind of deal. Any tips and suggestions can you give? I have some 3-pin and 6-pin toggle switches laying around.

iainpunk

yes, im am that same iainpunk

you're the Japanese person who's boards i keep guessing right? your pedals look amazing

you can just use the 6 pin toggle the same way as youd wire a bypass footswitch without the led. (as the arm of the toggle switch is your visual aid, instead of the LED)
the octave would probably be more pronounced with the ringer first, but the noisy fizzy ''jesus and mary chain'' vibe is easier to get when the face is first.

good luck and welcome to the forum

Hey man I knew it was you haha. Thanks!
Yeah I've been trying but I can't quite figure out which points in the circuit I need to wire the toggle switch... and I did try Green Ringer into Fuzz Face but there was a lot of noise (which some people actually liked haha)! I'm sure I screw up the hookup somewhere... II need to go in and figure out.

iainpunk

ill repeat my advice

Quotethere would be a chance of ''bad interaction'' between the circuits, to keep bad interaction from happening, you can put a 1k to 10k resistor between the Ginger's output and the Face's input,

this keeps squeals and such at bay, just experiment with resistance to get rid of the squeal.

Yeah I did try that but I don't think that was the problem. I think I'm going to take everything apart and do it again to see if the same problem persists. Thanks always for helping me out, professor!

Ok so it turns out that it was the bias pot that I put in where 8.2k usually sits. Depending on the setting of the pot it gets crazy noisy...

GibsonGM

I wonder if the pot is bad, making intermittent contact at the wiper and generating noise?  Is it a small trimmer or a real pot?

Hi GibsonGM,

Possibility. I'm using the regular potentiometer, but I'll have to look into that tonight. Thanks for your suggestion!

GibsonGM

Crackle is often the sound of a bad pot.  If you can find a good-sounding setting you might remove the pot, measure for the resistance, and put in a resistor.  ;)

I disconnected the Green Ringer circuit and just played the Fuzz Face, but the pot worked just fine. So I'm not sure what the problem is. But, the guy I'm building the pedal for is actually into noise music and he loved it haha

duck_arse

those noise guys - they like anything.
I feel sick.

GibsonGM

Is it music? Is it noise?
NO.

IT'S NOISE MUSIC.
