Familiar with the Boss j5 multiple jack -- 1 input -- 4 output? I'm needing to build something the other way around. I'd like to plug in 4 guitars with 1 outlet to my pedalboard. I'm an absolute beginner to diy stompboxes; actually this will be my first build...I can't read schematics yet so can someone draw a regular wiring diagram with 4 input jacks 4 on/off footswitches and one output? I would be most grateful for the help on this project

Hi & Welcome.. :icon_wink:

Do you need something such simple..??

that looks feasible, but like I say I can't read schematics so I need a plain wiring diagram...thank you I will see if I can take off with this

Late night here for wiring draw..
(but I promise I'll try a draw with wires and components tomorrow morning..)

Four inputs each with a footswitch...So you could have all four on at once (they will interact), or two or just one... It seems like you (probably) really want to only have one on at a time? But that is not easy without logic.

If you are not planning on switching guitar mid-song you might choose to use not stomp switches but a rotary switch. Now that is a sensible project we can help with.

You are imagining a passive device, no power, no transistors or opamps?

With a active devices you "mute" the inputs you are not using. With passive, you can't do that without some series resistance, with will affect how your guitars work with your pedalboard. And not muting means you may have little antennas picking up noise.

Again, a rotary arrangement will not have these problems.

Or, if you only need two inputs, there are easy solutions like what you are imagining.

Antonis: do you really want to offer 10k input-impedance for (each) guitar?

change them pots to 500k and remove the ground connection. will increase input impedance, and offer up to 16dB of volume reduction, should be enough i'd say.

cheers
friendly reminder: all holes are positive and have negative weight, despite not being there.

cheers

As long as those guitars aren't mine, why not..?? :icon_lol:

Just tried to make OP familiar with items wiring..
(values are easily modified according to taste..)

Wow, Antonis - that's so nicely done, even I could build that!  :)

I'm pretty sure you could also paint it much more fubby, Sir.. :icon_wink:

just don't call him an expert, Sir Fubby.

also, welcome doc_.

Just trying to understand the relevance of the fine suggestions here to the OP's need: Who plays four guitars at a time? He said he needs footswitches, and the only mixing function required is in case multiple switches happen to be closed at the same time.

I know, only one cord here. But...

Do you know what you're doing?

now THAT would be an awesome alternate!!!

that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for....I apologize to all these other fine helpful members if I caused any confusion

antonis that's awesome that's the kind of wiring diagram I can use. I'll save it

Just don't count too much on devices particular values, as already pointed by puretube and iainpunk.. :icon_wink:

It's just a real world implementation of the respective schematic posted earlier..
