Sorry for the late reply, just saw this. I've added the cap to ground but just about the switch, is that before the diodes or inbetween the diodes and cap? Also when you say to add a 1M resistor across the switch do you mean in series before or after the switch or literally across from lug 1 to 3, meaning the current always flows through but not enough to affect the signal?

1M across the used switch contacts (will be the same 2 switch lugs as cap/ground) so that the negative of the cap connects to ground via the 1M when the diodes are switched off. You can leave it out for now if you want and add it later when you've got a real version working.
