Boss pedal connecting battery cables to 9v power supply

Hi all,

I'm mounting a a Boss TU-3 in an enclosure which also houses a boost switch. The boost switch switches 2 pedals remotely via a 6pin din cable. I've got 2 wires spare on the din cable so I wanted to use it to draw 9v power from the mains powered t-rex fueltank.

I was going to do this by simply connecting a dc jack to the power in of the TU-3 and then soldering it to the 2 din connectors. Problem is, I've no space in the enclosure for the dc jack.

My question is, could I solder the batter wires to the din connectors and power the TU-3 from the mains powered fueltank via the battery wires?

Should be possible to help our imagination with some kind of schematic..?? :icon_wink:

I can draw one shortly. Basically, in simple terms, can I connect 9v DC mains power to the batter terminal of a Boss pedal?

If you connect a 9V DC power supply (not MAINS! "Mains" generally refers to the 120/240V  AC home power outlet,we never want to do that, lol!) to the PCB correctly, yes, you can do this - but it will then be hard-wired and prone to rip out, ruin something....it's awkward and fraught with hazard.

If you can dedicate a power supply for this purpose, you can use a battery snap wired to the power supply and attached to a snap inside the enclosure - or use some other connector - even a removable harness for JUST this one purpose...BUT there is always the chance that you'll use this somewhere else and ruin the next thing you attach to it.  Standardizing power connections is a good thing, and there's reasons we do this :)

Like Antonis said - a schematic of what you wish to do, and pictures of what you HAVE already, would be VERY helpful so we don't set you up for a situation like that, where you fry something.   Could be a way to 'hack' your cable to supply power, or some other neat idea...

Assuming you do have a suitable 9v DC supply and are sure of getting the polarity right, yes you can use the battery snap wires. The 2.1 DC jack won't do anything without a 2.1 plug in it.
The instrument input jack must have a cable plugged in or else the battery feed is off.
