Jumpered either side of the 330R now 9.5v to the 7805 with .05v on the other side....bad 7805! Bad! I ordered assorted 78L ones to do the Flangelicious right, maybe I'll go with that or try another 7805...still, might not pull it all apart after all, so thank you!

Is it the 7805 the right way around? Everytime I find a dodgy voltage regulator, I discover that it's because I've put it in backwards. Mostly they survive that, so it's not a big deal.

A friend of mine recently brought Munro's law to my attention: "Look where it should be, harder."

"Can't tell you how often this has located things."

I suspect he might be right...;)

A Google search suggests he just made that up.

No, but Munro is another friend of ours, so the law isn't widely known yet. You heard it here first!

It is. When I did one backwards it gave 9v on both sides. Likely my shoddy progression in learning got this one, but I'll give another a go or wait for the 78L05 cause it's much cuter!

78L05 is easier to solder too, because you don't have so much metal to heat up. Those big thick legs on the TO220 package take a while to warm up.
