Hello, I would like to build Buffered splitter for Wet&Dry rig. I need to have buffered splitter with phase reversation switch and insulated outputs. I am able to create a splitter, but i cannot find any information about insulating audio outputs. I think it could be done by signal transformer or optocoupler, but i have zero knowledge in this topic. Can someone point me in some direction ? Thank you

Hi, welcome!   Do you mean "Isolated" outputs?  Why do you need isolated outputs (I am merely curious).

Yes, it can be done with a transformer.  I don't have any designs for this handy and am still having coffee; I'm sure someone will be along to provide one for you soon!   :icon_lol:

Yeah i mean isolated.

It is for signal splitter. I heard that is good to have isolated outputs because of hum (ground loops).

If you could provide me with some schematic it would be awesome. Thank you

I didn't easily find anything DIY that isolates by doing a quick internet search.  Anyone?

First you might try the Splitter/Blend from Runoffgroove.com, and just see if it will do what you want. But I also have read about ground loop issues when using 2 amps.  Seems kind of hit or miss.

If you need to do it w/trafos, you might spend an equal amount of money/time by simply buying one (I did find quite a few isolated splitters for sale)...sorry no nice DIY schematic at hand for you  :)

Better is to learn about routing your grounds and how you join them. If you were to split through optoisolators you'd need separate power supplies for each side to truly isolate them. For audio transformers it might not be the same issue as they aren't powered the same...still, only joining the out grounds to the input ground at the power supply inlet might have the least issue (though I have plenty of learning to do on that end)

Head over to http://www.geofex.com and search for hum free ABY

This is a transformer isolated splitter. It does not include phase reversal but as the outputs (including ground) are independent of each other, you can simply reverse the leads with a switch to achieve this.

I have built one and confirm that it's very effective (as most of R.G's circuits are) I also have a completely passive ABY - just a few wires and switches. It's just as hum free as as the isolated unit with my current dual amp rig as I don't have hum to start with.

So, without building a passive ABY, you won't know if you have an issue but even if you don't, the hum free ABY is a great tool to have in your gig bag
