Hello,
I recently acquired an old Korg drum machine from 1984, and 3 of the pads work intermittently (one hardly works, another one makes a lot of double triggering, and the other one works one time out of two).
I opened it, and the push switches are of a different kind of the ones I already know.
I have the service manual with the part reference, but an internet search doesn't give any results (well, it's a 40 years old device after all  ;D ).

So here is are my questions :
- Could I find a replacement? Would anyone know what kind of push switch it is or what to type in a search engine to hopefully find something useful?
- Can these switches be opened to check the inside and try to service it?
- If not, could I try to spray some contact cleaner inside (like Kontakt chemie F2) or is it a bad idea?

What would you do?

Try your contact cleaner on a similar plastic first, to be sure it doesn't dissolve it. If ok, then spray them. I can bet it will fix it.

Similar switches in my cd player control the drawer travel and when that became a free-for-all no stopping at either end of travel, bounce in and out, I restored order with contact cleaner. Didn't spray the cleaner direct into switches which would have created an overspray mess, collected some of the cleaner in the can lid then used a pipette to dribble a bit of the cleaner into the two switches.

Still working proprerly a couple years on and simple enough to go back in and repeat if need be.

Thank you !

In the meantime :
I tried to spray some contact cleaner, but it didn't work.
Then, I unsoldered one of the switches to check in on every sides, and found a way to open it :
In pure Korg 80s fashion, the switch is using some piece of rubber with carbon applied. Like on every Korg gear of this period, the carbon is gone so it doesn't make contact any more.
I put some carbon on the rubber, and voilĂ  : it works again  8)

Also check if the black part with the blue actuator sticking out can be separated from what's underneath. Korg has past form using standard tactile switches (which are easy to replace) with specific plastic mouldings clipped on top. The buttons on the Polysix synth are one example.
If you're lucky, there's a standard 12x12mm tactile switch hiding underneath. You can replace the whole set of those with new for a few quid/dollars/euros. You might need to undsolder the whole lot to see clearly, but if you've got dead buttons, you'll probably have to anyway...

Good luck!
