you mean like the stone finish type stuff,??? any arts and craft store would hav that.    i personally like a good thick brush paint, that i can mix in some sand with.    talk about texture.  and if you fire it long enough in the oven some cool things happen

Johan

I am guessing you are after the crybaby chassis type of paint but anyway....if you use any type of paint that doesn't desolve in water, you can throw on some sugger before the pain dries and then wash the sugger off with tapwater when the paint has dried completly. that will give you a textured non-slip kind of surface....or use table salt for a smother texture...

Yea, like the crybaby chassis or the black big muff pi russian model..I have no where to bake the pedals..Is it safe to use the indoor oven? Or bad idea..I cant smell the house up--That would make for a mad wife..

Somebody mentioned to me that Harley-Davidson stores are a great place to buy black textured paint.

The black wrinkle finish (like on a crybaby wah) paint can be purchased from Antique Electronics Supply.

You can also buy Hammond enclosures pre-painted with black powder-coat textured paint.

You can also buy the hammered finish in a spray can. Any store that carries spray paint will probably have it.

You can't screw it up either ;-) I suck at painting as well and I love the hammered finish~!!

Best of luck

Man, that Krylon stuff is cheap over there!  Most electronics stuff seems to cost about the same in US and OZ dollars, but a can of hammer finish costs me about $15-$18.

Rust-o-lium makes a textured spray, its my favorite. It comes in black, brown, and green, that I've seen. Every Home Depot I've been to has it for $5 a can.
I'm finding that prep and drying time are the keys to getting paint that's durable. Sand, wipe clean with mineral spirits, DO NOT TOUCH THE BOX, if you do, wipe it down again with mineral spirits. Prime and paint exactly per the directions. Set it aside for a week to let it completely dry. Add decals or your choice of art, clear coat, let dry 48 hrs and its ready for the road. This is the only way I've had really good, consistent adhesion, baked or not. The key IMHO is the week long dry time, works wonders.
Another note, the hammered finishes don't need a primer, the key is to get between four to six thin coats on within an hour so they seal and adhere properly. No clear coat needed unless you add art work.
I'm in CA. so the temp is pretty stable and not to humid, other climates might have different results.

A lot of great responses! After research and  the need for baby formula, i went to Walmart and found Rustoleum Hammered black and grey!  I bought both..Been too cold outside to try but when i w as adding a clear coat to a warm (temp) yellow and orange compression pedal while outside  in 29 degree temp it created a strange texturing. Most would sand and start over, but this is unigue--its a keeper. I let it dry indoors and looked very cool--givin that it was a mistake.. Anyway, enough of the colors for a while until i either get better or Hammered comes in more colors than blk and grey that i find appealing..

Thnks to everone for great ideas and info

I love that stuff too. The best thing I like about it is if you just wash it with soup and water, you don't have to do anything else but let it dry. I bake mine because of our humidity and cold winter weather. I let them sit for a day before putting them in the oven, and then I bake them until they quit smelling. That's any where between 12 & 24 hours.

as for a place to cook it, you can ususally pick up a toaster oven at a gurage sale for about fity' cent

studiostud

I'm sure most of you know this by now, but never use an over or toaster over to bake your boxes that you plan on using for food.  During the baking process, the paint releases toxic fumes that will adhere to the inside walls of the oven and will later seep into any food you cook in it.  Just a heads up.   ;)
