I've only built two pedals now, and am about to embark on bulding a maestro fuzz-tone, which requires a 30 or 50k dual gang pot. I'm a little unsure on what a dual-gang pot is...i assume it means that two pots actually share the load? am i way wrong? also, do they come in pairs when ordered?

Hi Yardsale,

Dual ganged pots refer to pots that have two independent resistor elements connected to a single shaft. These are useful if you want to adjust two parts of a circuit, or two circuits at the same time.

Check out this page of the Mouser catalog. Figure B in the top row shows a dual gang pot.

Good luck on your build. :)

A dual ganged pot is two pots with one shaft. The Two pots are stacked on top of each other and share the control shaft. There is no electrical continuity between the two pots.

No worries Jason. :D

The same thing happens to me. I'll open a thread, do something else, come back and reply only to find others have too. A lot of the time everybody has something different to share. In some cases, I think saying the same thing different ways can be a help to the MANY users here who don't speak english as their first language. More examples to translate from. :)

Take care,

ah, thanks to you both. so in this wiring diagram http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/v2/diagrams/maestro_fz1s_lo3.gif

there are (2)two gang pots required? the parts list only has one, but i've already found a few other mistakes in it.

The wiring diagram looks right, the two parts of the dual pot are drawn separately! RV1A an RV1B from memory.

yardsale, the wiring diagram at http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/v2/diagrams/maestro_fz1s_lo3.gif

Shows one dual ganged pot, R1a and R1b. It looks like two pots in the diagram but it is actually one dual pot.
