I have built one before and gave it away (what a dummy!)
Now this one works but it is so loud I just about crapped my pants.
It is simply WAY too loud.
I thought perhaps the 386 I got from small bear was why but a swap for a RS one did the same thing.
Anyone guess why the hell it is so loud? I mean really really loud!!!
I used a 250K frequency pot but other than that it is stock.
If there is no real reson how can I tame it?

Well it has a volume pot on there now but I can hardly turn it.
Is the circuit really super louder than unity?
It is so loud right now it is comical.
Is there a better value pot that would let me have a little more room to get the right volume and help me not to blow speakers.
I really think if my amp was cranked and this thing was set to full volume I would pop one for sure.
I could easily see that happening to me.
If it is supposed to be that loud cool but holy smokes the difference is crazy.
I don't remeber my first one being this loud at all...
Well shoot this is the first time in my lofe I am complaining something is too loud  :D

Make sure the ground lug of the volume pot is connected.

IIRC...a smaller balue pot shunt's more signal to ground/less output
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Thanks guy...I guess I can live with peel your head off volume

a resistor before the pot. or even after

I built Uglyface and it worked fine for few minutes, but then it seems that 555 died - pedal is just distorting, no other action. I used CMOS TLC555. I also changed volume pot to 10k, because 100k was MADLY loud, and changed frequency pot to 500k. What could be the problem?

TLC555 didn't burn, but get overheated, so I added 75k resistor in series with volume pot and now everything is fine!

I am now definitely sure that TI TLC555 will not work on Ugly Face, it will always overheat, while ST's TS555 works fine. I have no idea why.
