I just got my first pair of the new Alpha DPDT switches, and they look nice.

The bottom is epoxy-with-pins-sticking-up like the blue Taiwanese 3PDT.

We'll see how they hold up, but I think I'll be switching over to these just because they're more compact.

Hi guys,

Is there a picture of these things floating around?  I'd love to see one.

Check mouser, search for DPDTs in pushbuttons and click on alpha... they should come up, I think they're referred to as "foot switches"

On that same page, look at the pricing on Carling 316-PP's.  :)

Which switch do I want, momentary?

Paul Marossy

Unless you're using a flip-flop circuit to switch the effect on and off, get a ON-ON DPDT switch. Momentary won't work witout a flip-flop, it will only work when you step on it and hold it down... the contact is momentary, as the name implies.

I wonder if they'll be suitable for wah wah's. They'd make the true by-pass mod alot cheaper.

yes..but there is a trick you have to do. remove the wah guts and drill a hole in teh top of the foot pedal. preferably under the rubber matt... put the dpdt momentary switch in the rocker of the wah itself.  you will have to use a couple of washers to get the level right but if you do it just so you can have a crybaby that functions like a morley.  i used to do this with cheap ratshack switches along time ago.

M.D.

hmmm yeah nice thought i like the pressure sensitive morley type idea i think i will have to try that one out never thought of it myself but then again i am only a mear beginer too.

They are available at smallbear for 4.95.

I was looking at those too. But they didn't have any threaded collar (the Alphas at the bottom). I didn't know how they would mount.
Listen to cKy!

It looks like the dwawing is just not very detailed becasue next to the shaft it does say M12x0.75 which is a metric thread size.

The datasheet goes into more detail about the included nut and washers:

With our friend the X-wing for size comparison. I'm hoping we have a winner here.

they'e rated at 10,000 cycles, lower than the Carlings. Hope that's conservative, cause' the price is right.

I'm glad Small Bear and Mouser have them; I'm going to see if CEDist can get them.

I havent done this one either...But Mazin thing to do for momentar Vocals echo insert...ya know like for those sustainey harmonies ya gotta try and sing in an extremely 'smokestale' atmosphere?
Or the echo  cho  cho  cho that you only need a little of at the end of a verse etc...But Don't want all over everything else...
Using a momentary swicth at the base of a mic stand to insert echo efkt on vocals...Seen it done...really werx great...the thing to do IMO...if you're a singer [oh sound man can do that...lol...Ive seen ones that can and seen most that couldn't get a patch on time much less a beer...]
Just use your normal light echo on the vocals [er what board reverb]...then ONLY press that button [on the echo With the Dials setup for X echo] when You're controlling the waves going into the mic [singing?] and you can get the echo like UP there without feedback problems...

And the lighting on the Pic...Just thought I'd ad it derserves stellar comment...Really nice Deep Dopple
