i thought to give it a go but can't find too much info... anything would be appreciated.

You have a good source for #40 to #42 gauge wire???

The reason you don't find links is that this is one of the least rewarding things to do in building effects. You have to wind many, many turns of hair-fine wire onto the bobbin of a ferrite core that's very difficult to find in small quantities. Finding the materials is a huge part of the task.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

actually...

there's a company that's doing custom transformers and such about 45 minutes drive from where i live and because it's a small company they still take some time to help people like me (= help for no real profit). I can get Epcos parts from them and any kind of wire I want. I am sure you ask at this point why not to pay them to make them for me and the easy answer is $$$. if I'll come up with a design that will work well I will be happy to make them and sell them at low cost for folks but I think that the first step should be to make one with the spec. of the small center halo type (500mH, 83.3 DC res ???).

RG,

I have about half a spool of #42 wire that I bought when I wanted to make a few pickups (pickups turned out GREAT, but how many pickups do you really need ;)), I'd REALLY REALLY like to wind a couple of wah inductors. I also have a turns counter I made... So, I got a little winding experience, the tools, and a little power transformer design experience also.

If I had a 'recipe' to make a wah inductor I'd sure like to give it a shot...

There were some ferrite cores at a surplus near me the other day. They were small. Looked dang near just like what I have seen in my wah.
Next week when they are open again I will see if the owner will send me a photo of them. I'll post it and if it is the right thing I can ship some out.
