I have photo shop 7 which i sort of 'took' from work.  I dont know much about it.  I have been trying to create a simple curved line (a smiley face) and cant figure out how to do it.  It seems like there is a lot there i will never use.

i think i can do it in paint, but the DPI is really low... like 150 or so.

any help?

you know what? i have no idea! ive been using it for ages too. draw a circle and erase half of it  :D

I did that, or something like that.  i could only figure out how to draw a filled in circle... all black.  then used a white circle over the top of it,  then started doing some other stuff, and finally when i started drawing the knobs the smile dissappeared........ aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhh

the layers were all still there, but something changed....

I also cant figure out how to select a color with out going in to a color menu.......   all i want is black and white... what is all that stuf over on the tool bar....  you get two colors, but when you click on it it wants you to select a new color.

aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhh :x

I used Zoner Draw to do my graphics for silkscreening the Crucible Fuzz.

It's a free download....

Photoshop can be intimidating, but you can do almost anything possible with an image. There are also lots of different ways to do the same thing. For the design you describe, Adobe Illustrator might be better to work with, and the image would be scalable independent of resolution. The built in Photoshop help might actually get you started pretty well. I imagine there are online tutorials also. You might want to use good old-fashioned paper and pencil and scan your drawing, using Photoshop to spiff it up and color it.  Even though I work in Photoshop for a living, I would probably search google images for a smiley face before I made one.

I don't know if there's a big difference but I use PS 6.

A curved line is kind of simple:
Use this tool under the arrow somewhere around the text-tool. It's a kind of blézier-tool (like in corel-draw etc.). The difference is that it doesn't creates a  drawing - it creates a path. If you're finished with the path use the arrow above this tool. With a right-click you can choose between 'fill path' or 'fill conture' or something like that. choose 'fill conture' and now you have to select the tool which should do the job (pencil, airbrush etc.).

Befor filling it make sure you did a new layer since this tool wont open one.

A bit strange - but maybe it helps

∇ ⋅ D = ρ
∇ x E = - ∂B/∂t
∇ ⋅ B = 0
∇ x H = ∂D/∂t + j

ok,  i think i figured it out... I find the fact that a lot of the things you do often in this program (like opening a new layer) require deep menu diving.

hello~
photoshop is part of my job...
use the marquee tool..., and make a shape... and go to the edit menue... and "stroke" it... any color... or any size(pixel) that you wish... in the dropdown menue's there are shortcuts next to some of the common functions... if you keep your eye on those they will help you stay out of the drop downs a bit...

if you want a new layer... on the bottom of the "layer" window... thee is a small button that looks like a piece of paper wit han edge turned up... this is the new layer button...
hope i didn't confuse...

i got PS 7 through my work... but i think i like PS 6 a little better...
be well,

working with PhotoShop to make simple drawings may be sometimes like taking a supersonic jet to go to the grocery store....

anyway, I'm a 'keyboard' user, so I know most of the keyboard shortcuts to all the software I use daily.

For example:

Ctrl + shift + N ...... new layer
Ctrl + J ..................duplicate selected layer
X............................swap colors in pallette (not in drawing)
D............................reset colors in pallete to white and black
M............................toggle selection tool
Shift + M ................toggle betwen several selection 'modes'
Ctrl + D...................de-select.
...... and so many others. I find this very useful, as you can use your mouse (or drawing tablet) and never leave the 'drawing' area to perform most of the commands.

If some of you want to, let me now what would you like to learn about PhotoShop, and I'll make  a tutorial, the way Aron did over building a simple booster. What about that?

There you got my XMass present!!!
