Question about the Big Muff Pi Tone section

I am working on modifying the tone section of a pedal, and am thinking of using the tone section of the Big Muff Pi.  I looked at the schematic on GGG and noticed there is a transister after the tone section.  Is this transistor used to make up for any level lost from the tone section, or as a buffer?  If I were to use the tone section in another pedal, what considerations would I have to take into consideration?  Thank you.

for what its worth i installed the muff tone control on my multiface and didnt really notice any loss of volume. unity is still at about 10:30 on the vol knob. i cant say how it will work with all circuits without the extra buffer or gain stage but im sure it will work with many.

hello~
in my experiences...tonestacks seem to subtract from the "output/gain" of circuits a little...
if your circuit is pretty close to unity when dimed... you might wan't to be careful... but if it has loads of output, it's no problem...
the bigmuff tonestack specifacly can "soften" or "tame" some circuits very nicely imo... my exapmle: is the jordan bosstone... it's a pretty rowdy circuit with loads of output, and the BMP tonestack spliced into the end of the circuit...  slightly tamed the circuit, but in a really good way... to these  ears!
my appologies  if you were looking for a real techy answer with the db numbers...
what circuit are you modding?

I'm working on modifying the Wrecktumflinger to make it easier to build.  Right now it has a Fender style TMB tone stack, but I think a two knob Tone/Volume thing is much easier to build.  Also I'm removing a couple of switches that seem kind of redundent.  The pedal is based on the Dual Rectifier so it includes a Clean/Distorted switch.  I want to get rid of that as well.  I've built it as it is designed right now, but I think most people would just turn the pedal off for a clean tone, so the Clean/Distorted swich seems redundant.  Right now I'm just kind of tweaking the pedal's design to get something that works a little better and is easiy to build.

The schematic can be seen here, http://209.240.71.22/circuit/wrecktumflinger/index.html.
