I got one off of ebay thanks to moose's suggestion, and god damn, this thing is super useful.  With my wimpy 3/8" drill I can very very easily drill holes well over 1/2" (the biggest hole I've had to drill as of yet.)  Thanks for the suggestion, moose.

Yep. If it weren't already in the FAQ, I'd say to put it there.

ExpAnonColin

Oh... didn't think to look in the DIY FAQ, just the forum one.

I too enjoy the unibit and got mine at Sears. It eats up Hammond boxes for lunch. The only caveats are to count how many steps you have drilled carefully so you don't make a hole one size too big (don't ask me how I know this) and when I use a hand drill and don't have the steadiest hand the holes can come out not perfectly round. The washers cover up the untidiness though.

Why do you hate them?

troubledtom

they just don't work for me. i'm much happier w/ a nice drill bit collection.
when you have devices in production and have to drill a million holes i prefer the right size bit. bam bam bam bam..............
the other bit is usful for the " one bit does a lot of shit type thang "
but , it's not for me. i'm glad others find it useful. i dont have the time to count the rings and check the size of hole's.
rock on and have fun , my brothers.

hummm.... YES IT IS in the FAQ!  :D

I love mine.

Yeah dude!  I was very skeptical when buying one, especially for the price.  But from the first time I used it I was hooked.  Those things are one of my best investments as of yet.

The main thing I like about Unibits is that you've got an automatic step drilling system going. You don't have to worry about accidentally misaligning the bit when you switch to larger and larger sizes. My only beef is that the depth between steps is *just barely* deeper than the walls of the box, so its easy to accidentally start drilling the next size hole while making sure the step you want made it all the way through the box...

mattv

Tom, you make a good point! (no pun intended)  :)

ExpAnonColin

I drill so many different hole sizes, I needed something like this.  And I've gone over the hole size twice now-but it's no big deal, someone invented washers for a reason :)

Rory-mine was $15 shipped, I think, off of eBay.

Thats a really good price.  I got mine new for about $30 or so.  I decided to get the single unibit instead of the pack, I have buttloads of smaller drill bits and didn't think I needed the smaller one, so I went for the big momma unibit and have been happy ever since.

javacody

I got the single bit off of ebay for $18. I haven't used it yet, but I've torn boxes up with the wrong size drill bits.

I also picked up some junction boxes at walmart today, will the unibit handle those?
