I have been given one of these and was wondering if anyone knows about this box .I can only get weird sounds out of it.What is it intended for?Vocals or instruments?

Anything. It's a digital delay.

What controls does it have?
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

It's part of the old Boss Micro-Rack series that they sold in the early-mid 80's. You seldom hear about this series but it gave us some pretty awesome units, espcially the Phasor and Flanger.

The delays, which the RDD10 is one of, are probably a little "vanilla" as they were based around the same circuit as the DD-2 and DD-3 (same pedal pretty much) but it was an affordable digital delay for the home recordist.

I've never messed with the RDD10, but I use two digital delay/pitch shifters, and the aforementioned Flanger and Phasor.

The coolest thing about the Phasor and Flanger is that they have a modulation bus input/output that allows them to sync up their LFOs (or control them completely via CV.)

I could (and have) gone on for paragraphs about how cool that is....

I've had (or have) out of that series, the graphic and parametric EQ, the RPS-10, and RDD-10. The basic audio quality is poor, IMO. The power supply voltage is low and the opamps are crappy sounding (but maybe to be expected at the price range/typical parts used). If you can get them cheap, then they're not bad deals, though.

re: the phaser and flanger, these were analog?

stumbled on an interesting phaser link:

As analog as your mom's apple pie.

The low supply voltage..... well think of them as 9v guitar pedals in a half-rack. Same thing basically.
