I have wired up the gain/distortion stage of the tube screamer just to fool around with, try different diodes caps ect.  But it doesn't seem to be boosting enough to distort :x

I have 495k in the feedback loop and 4K7 going to Vbias.  This was measured with my DMM so I'm sure I have the right parts in there.  According to my math that should give me lottsa gain.

I read another post where someone had the same problems becouse of the wrong input caps.  They're supposed to be 0.05uf.  Mine say 473Z on them.  Right right?

I am using a 741 instead of whatever it's supposed to be.  I thought that it should be the same, only with more noise and general crappy'ness.  Is this the problem?

If anyone could tell me where to start looking for the problem it would be greatly appreciated.  This was just ment to kill some time not drive me CRAZY     :D

Ansil

you do know the 741 doent' have the same pinout as the jrc4558

Ya, I'm using the 741 pinout.  And I am getting a signal coming through, it's just weak (not boosted/distorted)

Well the caps are only 3nF off so that shouldn't be the problem. Check if you didn't mix up inverted and non-invertid inputs of the IC.
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.
