Hey guys.

Some of you may or may not have remembered the post I made a while back regarding the problem I had with my Marshall JCM2000 DSL100.

The problem was that when switching from the distorted channel to the clean channel, there would be a slight delay, then a sudden 'shunting' sound if there was any reverb present on the clean channel.

I sent it back to Marshall who in fact replaced the entire amp, sending me a new one.

However upon testing it, guess what happened? The exact same thing.

I'm not using any effects at this time, just the guitar straight into the amp.

I have feelings that it might be just me, however this sort of thing couldn't be tolerated in a live or recording situation as the sound is quite distinguishable and farly loud (sometimes louder than the guitar volume).

Has anyone had this sort of problem with any of their amps and if so, can you give me mor information???

Thanks guys...

John

You're positively sure it's a new amp? :P

You could talk to marshall again, the fact they replaced it means there's something wrong. Marshall screwed up, so it's their problem. Just phone/mail/e-mail them again saying the new amp sucks as bad as the last one ;)

I don't know if the 2000 is supposed to do this (apparently Marshall either a) agree or b) never bothered to test the amp) but I know of some amps having a slight delay when switching. On a well-designed all-analog amp however, this shouldn't happen, no matter how complicated the switching.

Hi John,
There is a site called "Marshall Arts" (or sometjhing like that)- sorry- I dont know the correct name or have a link- but its basically a Marshall forum sort of thing- I will bet they can help you. I dont mean to patronize you- but are you sure it isnt the same amp (maybe they lied to you and sent back your origonal")? I have tried out a JCM2000 two days ago and didnt hear ANYTHING like you describe (granted, I wasnt listening for any of the issues you mention). The amp belongs to a friend of mine- Ill try an look for the delay for you tomorrow (its 2 Am here now). I am SURE I didnt hear what you describe, though.
Are you using a Marshall channel chaninging footswitch? Does it do the same thing if you change channels manually (I mean, actually pushing the button on the controll panel of your amp, as opposed to just using your foot switch)?
I hope this helps John, and good luck
Cheers,
luke

It could have also been a mistake that they sent you back your own amp. Couldn't you take it along to a certified marshall dealer and have a man look at it on the spot?

I'm positive that it's a new amp, I sent it back in a tatty old box, this one was shrink wrapped, also coming with a new warranty, footswitch and wire (which I didn't return ).

They old me the tech dept credited marshall £650 which was the cost of the amp and told me that this mean that I was going to recieve a replacement....

If I turn reverb completely off on channel A, then the thing works fine.... But I'm quite partial to the reverb sound

Its brand new, you can tell with the smell also... Newness... And the valves havn't been worn in yet....

Its not the footswitch either, it does the same thing when the chanel is switched manually...

Thanks for your help...

Maybe the reverb tank, is it a spring reverb?
