voltage questions

so i am going to be using a circuit similar to the tubescreamer.  and instead of using 9v and a voltage bias would it be possible to just use say 9v +/- and tie the points that are voltage bias to ground???  

lie where it connects to the pots. just connect that to ground.  or negative supply voltage.
