Hello Hello Everybody--
O.K., here's something for all of you people who play in a band situation.
What guitar and amp and fuzzboz set-up do you use in yer band??
[Also,  how noisey is yer rig when the pedal is kicked in??]
What I've been using lately is:
  Marshall 50-watt [older late 60's and early 70's tops] with either a 2-12" or 4-12 Celestion spkrs and Vox-type 30-watt class-A EL-84 amp and either 1-12" or 2-12" Celestions.
Various Gibson and Fender guitars [and Hamer!] for different sounds.
Vox '67 Tonebender  [semi-noisey], Tonebender MK II [semi-noisier at high settings!] , various DIY TB's and Fuzz Faces [ not too bad], various
4-tranny TB-style circuits [noisiest!], Rangemaster germ and silicon pedals[not too noisey].
Anyway, I play LOUD!
How about everybody else??
Brian.

Rory

Good Topic;
For me-My homemade Tele with Joe Bardens and a S.Duncan Alnico pro strat middle pickup strung with 11's into either a Tubeworks Smooth overdrive or a DS-1 both modded with help from here. Into an old MXR ACpowered flanger and a Zoom 507 reverb Delay goin to my much modded Fender 75 head with 2- 1X10 cabs with reissue Jensen C10's.Loudness depends on the familys tolerance level as I rarely play out anymore. If they file a noise petition I breakout the 91 Gibson AJ or an old Harmony Soverign cause everyone digs some John Hurt or Doc Watson.
"Looky What I Done Did"

casey

my rig is as follows:

fender strat with sperzels, 7 way combo switch
fender tele, stock
1967 fender coronado hollowbody guitar (sweet!)
this runs into a boss DD-5 delay with tap tempo.
one side goes to a boss sd-1 and
a danelectro daddy-O pedal, then to an a/b box which goes
to a volume pedal.

the other side of the delay goes to an rp-7 for all of my
modulations.....tremelos, verbs etc. and then goes to
a son of screamer, and then to the a/b box....
this way i can switch between my modulations and
overdrives smoothly.

this goes into a SOVTEK Mig 50 tube amp which drives
a pair of 10's in a an old fender open backed cab.

Hey Brian,

Good thread!

I haven't played in a band situation forever, hell I can't remember the last jam I was at.  :)  Although, when my honey is out I crank to gig levels in the basement.

My usual set-up is my '79 LP Deluxe into a homebrew MXR Phase 45 w/LERA mod, into an MXR Distortion II,  into my homebrew JTM45-ish amp or mini-Marshall November amp into a Marshall 1965B 4x10 cab.

I've built a whack of fuzzes and distortions and nothing sounds better to me than the Distortion II.  Perhaps I should just stop dinking with distortion builds and muck around with my greatest love - phasers!  :)

Take care!

Jim

i dont have alot of gear, but the stuff i have ( amp-wise neways ) is all good stuff. my gear is;
1. left-handed westfield strat copy ( i know dont laugh )
2. morley prowah ( $35 on ebay, bargain )
3. line 6 spider 2 2-12 amp ( it has never done anything bad noise wise only good comes from my baby )

i know its pretty bad ( verging on the worst ) but ill be getting a highway 1 strat honney blonde (left-handed) soon so then it wont be so bad. i think that its better to have a good sound, but a good playing guitar is also a bonus :D
callum
ps i have only been playing for 2 years and im 13.
pps my bands name is by default :)

We play loud too. I'm a bass player, but it doesn't keep me from using pedals. Some may scoff at my Peavey rigg, and it does look like it's gone to 7734 and back, but it does sound good.
I do also have a 2 Kustom 2x15 cabs and K200 head from the 60's that I like using, but I blew my speakers a couple of months back, and haven't had the time to get replacements.

gear list:
Peavey Data Bass (300watts) slaved to
'79 Peavey Mark III head (300 watts)
Peavey 18" Black Widow PA bass cab
Various fuzz and dis boxes for Jack Bruce tones
Dano lefty DC bass
Fernades Gravity 4 bass with antiquity p-bass and 1/4 jazz bridge pickups.

This is fun :) My gear:

Strat copy (sucks, needs to be modded)

Bespeco 'Weeper' wah/volume pedal (modded)

BOSS EH-2 Enhancer

The starts represent my work.

Lots off BOSS stuff there. I like BOSS effects. Shame that they're not true-bypass.

what a great topic! sooo gooofy....i love it. i'm back into gear geek mode, thanks to to diy pedals.....here's my current run-down:
my main guitar is an epiphone casino w/seymour p-90s. options are a les paul dc w/p-90s and an epiphone riviera...still don't like the mini-humbuckers, though.
effects :D   first the boss od3, then the dyna-comp (on most of the time), and a rat for leads. this goes into a eball volume pedal w/tuner out. next comes the ibanez chorus, stereo out, and a boss super phaser and tremelo pan. last is the line6 delay....used to be a dan-echo. i like having two distortions BEFORE my volume pedal, so's i can get ridiculous feedback and noise but layer it at a very low volume...ala jesus&marychain or red house painters.
for amps, my small club amp is a blackface princeton w/12in celestion. :)
big club amp is a blackface pro reverb (or both).  :x
very big club (or hall) setup is a 50w hiwatt w/2-12 celestions
and the fender pro reverb. it took a long time to figure out that the reverb channel on blackface fenders is usually wired out-of-phase! so for stereo, i now use the normal channel on that amp. i'm crazy about celestion vintage thirties and seymour p-90s.  am i geeky enough? i can be a little obsessive at times.....all in all, my rig is fairly quiet. unless i turn all the crazy shit on.   thanks, jon

Johan

guitar
gibson lespaul standard (1989 ) with -57Classic pickups

amp
-80's marshall 50watt combo moded for cathodebiased 6v6, so I can get poweramp distortion at a level the other bandmembers can tolerate
eminence speaker ( dont like celestion in combos...to much midpeak..great in 4x12 though)

Fx's
boss Tu-2 stagetuner
Moded Boss SD-1
Crybaby
moded Rotovibe
moded boss DD-3 (see old thread "DD3 two in one..or something like that)

sometimes I've used a Sansamp tr-iac when I know I'd get a monitor, instead of the amp...it works, but its not the same

I really dont build much fx's...just customize/modify them to do what I want...

Johan
DON'T PANIC

Tubebass

'00 Carvin LB-75 5-string bass w/Carvin stacked humbuckers into....
Korg CMP-1 compressor, on all the time, into.....
   Homebrew jfet distortion, into....
   Boss CE2b chorus, into...
a big box which contains my DI (Hammond broadcast-quality transformer) and a stomp switch which sends the signal to either the DI and amp or to the....
   Korg bass tuner
Pedals are powered by a power supply made from two tiny Panasonic 5-volt switching supplies turned down to 4.5 volts with their outputs in series.
Despite the Tubebass handle, amp right now is a circa 1980 Peavey Bass Combo that somebody cut down to a head, into....
   Peavey 1810 cab (2x10 + 1x18)
   Cheers!
More dynamics????? I'm playing as loud as I can!

When I play solo shows, I use a MIM tele -> fuzz face -> big muff pi -> solid-state fender amp (frontman 25)... so I can play extra tracks through the RCA inputs on the amp while I play! :)

At home I use all the fun stuff, there's no way I'm going to bring my nice guitar and amps and effects to some gig where they'll get ruined and the soundman will turn the vocals way down and destroy everything above 7khz...

my custom f-100 gnl is wired in stereo to use my guitar w/ the vg88 v.2 and/or my fx. it's put into a mixer, then i use a carvin 2000w-rms amp to get my point across.
    sorry.....live, i'm heavy handed.
but , i use the same set up for jamming w/ the band  8)
             sick and loving it,

Ammscray

Live it's my 91 Gibson V (there ya go Brian!) with original late-50's PAF's, a 62 strat, or a 59 Les Paul Junior, into a 72 stock 50 watt Marshall halfstack or 62 JMI AC30, or an Orange 120 top...250 Ms of delay from the house...straight in mostly, but occasionally you may see a Derangemaster Trouble Booster, an old Italian Vox wah, an ADA flanger, or a home-made preamp booster of my own design...the leslie 122 is too heavy so that stays home now...:)

In the studio you'll find tons of classic vintage pedals (NO tube screamers though) , and tons of semi-clones and offshoots, too many to mention, but big favorites are: Colorsound Overdriver, Hawk II booster, Orange Squeezer, Hotcake, Jet Phaser, Univibe, and of course my favorite effect, Vicodin...
