final thoughts on Gain for Miss piggy trannys?

I read through the thread for the piggybacked transitor fuzz face and I'm dying to make one up.  I'm putting in an order to small bear, and was wondering if there was any sort of final concensus on what types trannys and what level of gain worked best.

There was alot of brainstorming and values being thrown around and I wasn't sure what was conjecture and good ideas and what had been tried and sounded good.

So could anyone help?  Cool thanks.

I used four 8 pin IC sockets for each 2Q position.
That's 4 columns [1 column for each transistor and i R lead] of four ppins.
Tie the bottom tow pins of each column together, these will let you try out different emitters their resistors.
So emitters are on the second row of each column and the top parts wire up too like Miss Piggy.
Just trim the emitter resistor leads just right and use the sockets to test yourself to oblivion...sometimes it's hard to hear a change,...
I even forget the exact config Iv'e got but it's something like Q1 Ge hfe 104 with Q2's emitter [5088] on a 3k3
  Q3 Ge Hfe 148, with Q4's emitter on a 4k7....
The caps ended up pretty close to the schematic except 10uf for 22uf [gonna try a 22uf when I find oneI got it to where it's got tubey Bloom, with smooth sliceyness etc. had to play for hours and hours, it didn't take too long to where I got to the point of boxing it up...tried a few A/b sessions with TB's and bout everythin and everyway, the PIG is BIG.
Q2 actually seemed pretty cool with whatever [at least one transistor] in there or not, as long as it was biased.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Like I said a couple of times in the thread, the BC109's that I tried sounded excellent. If I were you, I would order a bunch of different kinds and experiment.

Right on thats great, thanks.  I am grabbing a bunch to experiment (its hardly fun if you don't) I just didn't want to go over ground that was already covered.  Thanks for condensing that rather lengthy thread :D
