I looked in my magic box and 'remembered' I'd ordered JRC 4558's and NE5532's in the last SB order...lol
I must say I was impressed. Not to say somebody can't like TL082's, but this first build to have the new to me op amps, the differences Were impressive and I though they were a marked improvement toward the type of tones I like and in noise.
I must have overheated a couple of TL082's, I think one of them may have become too hot in the Piggyback mating process, all they did was Cliick clik Cliick clik.
The Stupid Box is a fine tester for OA and Clip sound testing with Diodes and I have one LED -->!--, and two diodes--<--, pulling either and both makes a big difference, and the OA's themselves can clearly be heard influencing the sound, with what I would call A big difference in performance between the different types I tried.
I didn't try different individual OA's of the same type,.
You can see I've been having fun trying this one out...it's doing good through the two amps I tried it in, RCA Victor and ST70, Cool Fuzz.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

i like the TL072's in the stupid box the best, but i have only tried a few differentones.  I didnt like the jrc4558's  seemed sort of darker, and had a sort of 'in the other room' sort of sound.

I also have killed a few tl072's, and 82's.  I think the jfet input makes the more suseptible to static electricty death.

I also tried it with asymetrical clipping.  I didnt like it much.  I think i will build one soon with led's though, just to check that out.

oh yeah, and i love it when you find out you have parts you didnt know you had..... i realized the other day i had a bunch of jfets i forgot about.
