Hi there,

I am wanting to make my modded TS10 a true by pass pedal without hjaving to put it into a new case, hence wanting to use the 4016 and 4013 chips.

Does anyone have a simple schematic and layout on how to wire these together including an LED to get true bypass?

Thanks!

Cool! Is there anyone who has a layout drawing of this as well (for those of us who have difficulty translating chip schematics in to layouts  )

Thanks

i think its pretty widely agreed that although this is a good way to switch, it is not considered "true bypass".  the question is why you want "true bypass".  many times people think they want TB because they heard it was better, or a host of other reasons.  fact is, jimi, srv, etc. didnt use TB so why would you(if thats the sort of thing you are going for).  use whatever works for you, screw the hype about TB, carbon comp, vintage, GE, NOS, etc. etc.

Agreed that this is not techically "true bypass" its close enough for people not to notice and for the sake of simplicity it works. Thats another conversation. For these purposes its better then whats there right now. :)

Check out the download area of the site for PCBs and layouts.

Oh and don't forget that if your are switching the effect using an external switching system that you will have to make sure your effect's switching is always on.

Hello,

I am after this "by pass" technology because
1) having my TS10 (when off as well as on) before my Tycho octave pedal is screwing up its sound, when I take it out it's fine. Also I have a mini dano pedal that thins out the sound of my high output soapbar pick ups. And I was really trying to avoid this.

2) I'd rather not go and by new boxes, pots etc fro them both.

I use it because with eight pedals in series and three on an effects loop, most of them manufactured without TB, you end up with a pretty messed up signal coming out the other end.

It's not hype dude.  People like us (pedal fanatics) sometimes NEED TB to have a useable effects system.

Besides, nothing could be simpler than TRUE true bypass... a switch.

i agree with you totally, i was just suggesting that people be aware of what is useful diferentiation, and what is hype.  when someone comes here saying the want "true bypass" i have to question why they think this.  often it is because they heard some manufacturers hype.  i was just saying that although the 4066 etc. was not true bypass, it shouldnt be discounted if it serves the purpose of the builder.  for some it will, for others TBP is the only way to go.
in your specific case it is indeed not hype, but im sure you can agree that there is a lot of hype surrounding issues like this, mostly stemming from people coming into this hobby without a lot of technical background, and being lured by promises of "the perfrect tone!"  this is not necessarily a bad thing, but it might prevent someone from exploring the possibilities of the 4066 setup, and they would never discover that it actually sounds fantastic for their particular use and setup.
on the other hand, in this case i would wonder if the 4066 was going to cause the same problems as the tubescreamer in bypass.  anyone care to comment on this type of bypass?

hey, you think calling a circuit the "Millenium bypass" constitutes hype?!?!  God no!  Sheesh, this is the 21st century, there's no such thing as hype!

It was a wardrobe malfunction alright!?!  Not just an excuse to drum up some controversy!

I don't really want to hijack this thread, but it must be said;

starts with P rhymes with hop.

And doesn't work with a momentary switch (as is already in my pedal) derr I can't beleive I assumed it would!

Not to worry it's now in a new case with a dpdt stomp switch.
