the random arpeggiator is really awesome. if you look around you can see vids of people using it... it is really freaking awesome!

it is like describer as an arpeggiator/envelope filter/lo-pass filter

What makes the random arpeggiator work? it is really awesome.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Robotalk a modified Maestro Filter Sample/Hold? Check http://www.generalguitargadgets.com for info.

From the soundclips, I believe it's the same general idea. The Maestro S/H is one of those projects on my list that I *really* want to build, but never make the time for...

I go back and forth on wanting to build one. On one hand it's a really unique effect, but on the other it's fairly limited for the kind of music I play (I think it's more suited for crazy synth stuff with self-oscillation, insane amounts of reverb, etc, but that might just be me)... the only song I know offhand that makes very strong use of one is "Throw Away your Television" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on By the Way, and Frusciante uses a Line 6 FM-4 box, which models the Oberheim version of the circuit (same thing I think)

My dad's Zoom 505 (I think he still has that thing) had the same effect, with all the digital degradation the Zoom 505 brings, but it's still a cheap effect. It's 1600 miles away so I can't tell you how adjustable it is.

The other day the local music shop owner was telling me how 505s have killed the market for other pedals (I was asking him if he wanted to stock my pedals).  After 10 minutes playing he was totally raving about how good my pedals sounded - and one was just a modified MXR Dist+. 8)  8)  8)
