Maybe, I know other people have used the raco boxes but I've never seen the really small ones geting used.

The little raco box is probably getting a green ringer put inside of it, the aluminum rectangle is getting an orange squeezer, as for the round one, still not decided about it, maybe a fuzz face but that's kinda cliche.

These one's from lowes seem to have more room inside them than the ones  Igot at home depot, another nice thing is the top(bottom) of the round one is flat, the one's from home depot have recesses in them.

The little raco box even has a nice little indent in the top that a foot switch will fit nicely into.

They all need a little bit of smoothing before I finish them, I guess I will just update this post as I go about it.

If you use the round drain(plumbing) end caps as effect boxes as suggested by Jack Orman you can use the lid form the yogurt containers as bottom plates, they fit perfect(the 750mL container I think).

what do you do about filling those holes?

when you use a raco box, do you use bondo or other type of metal filler to lock the punch tabs in so that you can drill through them ok?

The holes in the aluminum ones, are threaded and they come with thes little plugs that screw into them, I've been mounting the jacks inside them works great.
Yeah like Ansil said either drill from the inside or put a block of wood inside to drill into, or they sell little plugs that pop into the holes and you can use a hammer to bend the tabs over on the inside so they don't come out.

YES! Drill from the inside out. I've used plenty of junction boxes in the past, even the enclosure on the far right with the indent. Going the other route will only punch out the "buscuits." Then you are stuck with a useless metal box with a nice huge hole in it.

I recently finished building up two of the boxes, the white round one I haven't donw anything with yet, as I need t oget some better paint stripper to take off it's finish it's alot tougher stuff then the ones that I got feom home depot had on them.
Anyways here they are:

Green Ringer from General Guitar Gadgets
I don't think I need to label it it's green and it has kind-of a ring on it so if I can't remember that I need help.

And 4ms Fuzz Jade done up ransom note style
I didn't put in the Mud Control just jumpered it's location, on the last one I built I found I didn't use it much and I didn't have the extra pot laying about.

Those ransom note labels are classic. 8)

Yeah, those waterproof boxes look liked they'd work the treat, I looked at em at HomeDepot too, and theres lugs so you can screw them to the floor! (Club owners hate that, go figure).. :D
I've been wanting to do a tongue in cheek sort of enclosure like on top of the amp, how funny would a old bowling trophy be on top of a amp for a rangemaster like circuit or something... :D (need to be a big trophy with a cup or something though... ). I never tire of comedy at the clubs, you want to get a dozen questions about whats in a box, take a small 'mystery' enclosure with just a jack in and out nothing inside and watch 12 musicians at jam tell you how great you sound and just dying to know whats in the box... haha... :D

With all the dozen's of blues songs that start "Gonna get up in the morning" , its a fact that blues musicians are apparently the only ones that actually get up in the MORNING...

That green ringer looks real nice. I've been tempted to try those small boxes but I think they would stretch my box-stuffing skills to the limit. :D

Here's something I did with the slightly larger square one:

The big 4-11/16" square ones come in handy for effects with a lot of knobs (like 3-band tone stacks). They are a little big, but they work too:

I've got one of those large ones in the workshop, I'm going to be putting a 4MS atoner into it, shoild be large enough for all the knobs.
And yeah the ringer is a tight fit

didn't even have to secure the board at all it all presses up against each other, and I added a little self stick foam to the inside where the battery goes to make sure it doesn't move.

I've got a "floating" board like that in my easy face. I put that in one of the square RACO's with the rounded corners. I really hate those boxes because the rounded corners waste so much space. I'm glad I can get the ones with the sharp corners now, they work pretty well.

Those cheap electrical boxes are great. I suggest using JB Weld to seal the knockouts before driling. Even if you get the holes drilled, you risk knocking the metal out at a show or something. A little JB Weld on the inside, and some bodo or something on the outisde and nobody will know what it is.

Jb Kwik...can't beat the stuff. Hard to squeeze form the tubes, I can get enough to do a box in one working, I use a credit card to do the 'spreading', more like mainly working it into and near the circles edges. Scrape some off and work it around.
I leave it set for at least 4 hours, even though it probably would be hard enough for gingerly drilling after 20 minutes.
Drawing equal parts is not as critical as bondo { ended up bondoeing a box with lean catalyst mit mixture and threw it away after a 'bubble gum' remove attempt session], but I watch that closely.
Oh the Bondo catalyst should be mushed around in the tube and or shaken, I had a large amount of separated fluid run out on the resin that time.
!5 minute bondo works. I just like the isolated application of JB [just around the hole seams] and no sanding. the bondo I would put on all sides to try to make them flat...alot of time/work...about 3 coats/sandings minimum to get a sleek well formed outer shell. I don't like the smell of it.
