First of all I'm going to be 16 next Saturday, and my parents don't want to come (I live elsewhere), my grandma is making all kinds of excuses and in the end almost no-one cares  This is gonna be the shittiest birthday ever. I'm not happy

Secondly I blew up my friggin wallwart. The goddamn fuse didn't blow when it should have and i used the fuse that was labelled on the nice and clear schematic inside the box. How shitty can it get? No FX for me tonight. Or next week. Now I have a nice molten transformer.

Sorry 'bout dumping this on y'all but I needed to blow off some steam.

If I could afford to fly to the Netherlands, I'd come buddy! Cheer up. Find a way to make the day special for you and screw everyone else!

16 was a tough time for me, too. Hang in there, it will get better.  :)

Sorry to hear this.

What kind of wallwart was it? What was it for?

smoguzbenjamin

I was a 9v wallwart for my pedals. I was using a borrowed effect from a buddy without knowing the current draw. Turns out it was digital and drew 75mA. I knew it was digital but didn't stop to think about the fact that it might draw a lot of current. Which pulled out 300mA from a 250mA MAX wallwart. Just drew too much current. And the fuse didn't blow, and the thing sorta got too hot and I'm lucky that nothing else got damaged. I tried all the pedals with a low-current wallwart and they all work individually. Now I just got to get another wallwart that can supply an amp. It was an old wallwart but the regulating was heavenly. Hey I have the schematic, maybe I could rebuild the same filtering! It uses ancient transistors though :( Dang.

Hang in there man 16 wasn't easy for me either.  Have a good birthday and make the best of what you've got.

I'm 16 as well.  Don't worry about it man, it'll all come around.

I'm feeling better allready. I did some calculating on how much my amp build was going to cost on parts (not even chassis) and ended up with a result that was â,¬30 less than what I had first come up with. I can probably pinch an old school computer that they're throwing out and I can salvage wires and metal from that. The local DIY superstore also has leftover 1/2" plywood for free which I can use for the amp head in any case. That cheered me up a little. :)
Guess it's the age, huh?

Smoguzbenjamin,
Sorry to hear youngster.  What do you want from the USA that would make your birthday?  Oh, nevermind,  I already know what I'm sending you!!!

Just have a happy birthday and don't worry about many things.  When you get to be my age, you won't want to have any more bithdays!!

Peace!

"I was thinking on taking at least 3 chicks to my place that day"

It's not Portuguese buddy... it's Spanish... Portuguese people tend to get a bit temperamental with this common mistake

Happybirthday!

I'm not sure what sucks more, the wallwart, the fact that you're 16 and not living at home, the fact that family members won't attend your "festivities" (although those two are probably related), or the fact that I'm probably older than your parents.  Either way, there are a LOT of 16 year olds who wish that they could have birthday festivities without their parents poking their nose in.  One man's meat is another's poison, eh?

Happy birthday, Ben.  One day you'll be able to afford to take out both your parents and grandparents on your birthday, and they'll be SURE to attend.

Ansil

cheer up ben..  i just turned 28 and hardly anyone came to my little party thing.. but i know how it feels to not have family around   i had several alone birthdays. but it will get better..  :)

Happy B-Day Ben. :D  :D  :D

Don't get bummed about the situation: in the grand scheme of things, it's small potatoes. Besides, how many people sixteen can even play good, let alone make their own pedals and amps. Or come on this forum and give useful advice to people, some over twice your age.  Would you rather be the chubby honor role student who has 20 geeky, chubby people come to his birthday party?

Sorry about the power supply. Make it a positive thing. Make the next week all about playing unplugged or clean, and work on nothing but getting tone from only your hands. Work on bends, vibrato, different pick attacks, etc. Good things will come of it.

Take care, have fun. 8)

Hey, have a happy birthday anyway. Best wishes from California, USA.

I always enjoy your posts and perspective. I just turned 43, and I vividly recall the wretchedness of teenagerhood.

Wow! 16! What a great age! I got my drivers liscense when 16! Happy birthday!

Last night I did the math and discovered that for 2 years I have been wrong about my age! I turned a year younger! So, happy unbirthday to me!
