Happy B-day dude! I'm sure if any of us were closer we'd be there to give ya one hell of a party, but alas we are far away =/

Life will get better Smoguz!

One day you wil look back and go "Wow".

Ge_Whiz

At your age, a birthday is what YOU make of it. In the words of the song, "Do Anything You Wanna Do", and remember the English saying, "Relatives are foisted (pushed) on you at birth - friends you can choose for yourself".

Make it a guitar, pizza and beer day.

Have a good one,

Whiz

happy b-day there..... 16 was pretty cool, it only gets better and better
though.  there are days when you wake up and are happy to be
alive.  :)

hope you have a good one.

:D thanks guys! Wow after a shitty day at school it's great to read all this  I hope I didn't piss of any portugese speakers here. I can't tell A from B when it comes down to Spanish and Portugese

Quote from: Fret WireWould you rather be the chubby honor role student who has 20 geeky, chubby people come to his birthday party?
NO! that's one of my greatest fears, becoming normal and boring

Quote from: Fret WireSorry about the power supply. Make it a positive thing. Make the next week all about playing unplugged or clean, and work on nothing but getting tone from only your hands. Work on bends, vibrato, different pick attacks, etc. Good things will come of it.
Now I've been lacking in the clean department anyway. Good point.

Quote from: Ge_WhizMake it a guitar, pizza and beer day.
You're right I can now legally buy my beer! :D And I could have a few buddies over or someting... yeah that's a good idea. Who needs my parents anyway  Assholes they are. Now to get them to pay the money that my surrogate family wants for my stay. Stingy dickheads.

Quote from: Mark HammerI'm not sure what sucks more, the wallwart, the fact that you're 16 and not living at home, the fact that family members won't attend your "festivities" (although those two are probably related), or the fact that I'm probably older than your parents.
If you're over 60 you're older than my dad, if you're older than 50 you're older than my mom. ;)

Right, now to call up some buddies and arrange something... Although it's testweek next week. Maybe I'll celebrate later. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the kind words :D I really appreciate it!

For years I've felt like a total outsider in my family.  A few years ago I read this great book that had a story about people who feel like they have the wrong family.  Apparently, there's a small, but significant chance (maybe 1 in 1000??) that your genetic makeup will turn out way, way different to either of your parents.  If so, you are one of a select band of people.  We call ourselves the "misplaced zygotes". 8)   Essentially, we have a whole bunch of characteristics that were genetically hidden in our parents.  The great thing about being a misplaced zygote is that, unlike most people who turn out pretty much like their parents, we develop and evolve in completely independent ways.  Much more than other people, we have our destiny in our own hands. (the down side is that our families don't understand or support us, but you can't have everything!)

Maybe you're a misplaced zygote??

Dude! You could be right! I'm a misplaced zygote! Wait till my bio teacher hears this!

Hmmmm. Well I don't really care anymore. I have a nice friendly surrogate place to be, at least for now. 8) I'm having two buddies over tomorrow to watch a movie and eat unhealthy stuff, which is gonna be cool.

And I re-adjusted my amp plans (I'm not allowed to build a 4x10 cab  ). I'm going to make a dual 1x10 which can be switched into mono mode (so it's just a 2x10), so I can use it on one channel. Then I make another cab and stash that under my desk, or on top of the other cab ;) It's gonna be fun! Waah I'm looking forward to this... Gotta order from SBE first though. That's gonna cost â,¬35,- at any rate... And I need to find free sheet metal... and some other stuff. I can get speakers cheap though! 10" speakers for â,¬25,-! 8) So that's going to be amazingly cool. You guys rock!

i thought of an idea for where you could perhaps find sheetmetal.
if you could find an old refrigerator, they are loaded with it.

good luck

A fridge eh... Good idea. Now to go to the city dump and convince the dudes there to let me nose around....

Hi Ben,

Where do you buy these?

Ben:

I copped this idea from Tonepad.  You want sheet metal for an amp?  Get the skin off a computer tower.  Plenty of metal, plenty workable.  When we carted my father-in-law's computer to the dump, guess what DIDN'T go along?

Heh-heh-heh...

I was thinking of pinching a few of those PCs that my school is throwing out. Oh no wait, I have some old PCs at my parent's house. now I have to go get em. Darn.

Joep,
I got that rough amount from the amp guy in Leiden, we are talking 2nd hand speakers here though. I'll have to go round his shop and get a real amount. When I buy my speakers I'll let you know what they cost.

If you read my post from last weekend, you know that life can suck at any age.   16 is a great age and a difficult age.  There have been times at almost any age that were great and those that sucked.  You really do have to make the best out of whatever situation you find yourself in.  I'm constantly reminded of how fortunate I am to have a nice place to stay, food to eat, cloths to wear, wonderful kids, 4 guitars, 7 distortion boxes, 2 guitar amps, a computer, a DVD, etc.  Millions of folks on the planet don't have a pot to piss in, are in constant wars, ill health, oppression, etc.  I've been working at it over 48 years and have only slightly gotten over the hump.

As you get older, like most off us, you will find that your parents are humans like everyone else, subject to mistakes and errors, full of flaws and problems with fewer answers than questions.  We all should have great parents to raise us, but only a few are that lucky.  It doesn't mean they don't care or don't wish good things for you.

Anyway happy birthday, mountains of joy, and keep your fist in the air against all would keep you down.

Thanks WGTP, I realise that their human and just normal people, they're just very stubborn and conservative left-wing people. I'm also stubborn but I'm more progressive  Which doesn't really mix well...

Sure life can suck at any age, makes sense. csj made a nice statement a while back "life has a way of kicking everyone in the ass. It's just a matter of time."

Quote from: WGTPMillions of folks on the planet don't have a pot to piss in, are in constant wars, ill health, oppression, etc.
When I read that I usually asociate that with corrupt governments. You know, the kind of people who take aid money and put it in their own pockets. I read a month ago that the king of an African country, I forget which, had just ordered for 9 palaces to be built for his wives. It cost him about â,¬100 million, while the country has a â,¬49 million debt. I just don't get the kind of people who don't pay the countries' debt with that insane amount of money. It's just so selfish and anti-social. Sometimes I'm trying to get to sleep and I say to myself "I am so glad that I live in the West." and then I tend to not care about what people think of me anymore :)

Just a minor point, but you said
Quotejust very stubborn and conservative left-wing people
Well, the conservatives are the RIGHT wing of politics (ie republicans, tories, fascists).  Us lefties are the revolutionary, dynamic, free-thinkers. 8)

Different politics and different personailty types in the one family can be SO difficult.  Don't despair.

Happy birthday from Melbourne Australia as well..

and, I know exactly what you mean by "conservative left-wing".
Although the 'consertvative' lable in English is used mainly for the right wing, I have known some very "set in their ways & wont ever change" people on both sides.
I havn't changed my policies since the 1960s, back then I was considered right wing, now I'm considered LEFT! that's how the world has changed
Thje other thing about politics.. whatever people are SAYING, it is more worhtwhile to look what they are DOING!
