Can anyone tell me how I can tell which lug is the ring, tip and sleeve on a phono connector? Not the plug, but the connector it goes into. thanx

;) The lug is usually opposite the connector it connects to.

The best way is to just follow what pieces of metal that connect to the ring-tip-sleeve of the plug.   The enclosed types are more difficult, those are best buzzed-out with the multimeter - the only warning is to buzz out contacts with and with out the plug so you can identify any switched contacts.

I second Boofhead's comments.  I have often *assumed* that a particular lug was connected to a particular contact on a stereo jack without looking closely enough and been disappointed the next day when I realized I was wrong and the battery had completely drained over night!

Check EVERY phone jack to make sure the solder lug goes where you think it does.

Something else I noticed, I was tightening one of the RS ones in a box and while wrenching it down (and I wasn't using a big breaker bar either) the ground and tip actually spun and slid into each other. Just something I noticed, I just snug them now and if it was going to be permanent, I'd blue loctite it like I do on my harley bolts (and like I WANT to do on my strat output jack that keeps getting loose   . ;).

With all the dozen's of blues songs that start "Gonna get up in the morning" , its a fact that blues musicians are apparently the only ones that actually get up in the MORNING...
