i've been trying to get this thing going for a friend~
i built it exactly to specs as shown on the perfboard layout at www.runoffgroove.com

i am getting no voltage reading on my jfet... seems a little funny! i am aware of the jfet legs that need to be twisted and seem to have the pinout correctly...if someone could post their voltages, i think i could figure it out from there... again, this is the one with the mod for the flashing LED...

i am just getting a blatty below unity sound.. nothing else... i know lots of cats have built this circuit here.. maybe someone could give me a heads up..

There's no DC bias on the JFET so 0V is right.

Check the pinout of your MOSFET.  Measure the voltage at the drain and adjust the trim til it's between 4.5 - 5V.

Is the LED blinking?  If not then the LFO isn't working.

Is your JFET pinout correct?

thanks for the quick help Gez~
NO, my led is not flashing.. it is getting a little voltage across it tho.. i will recheck my resistor values..
hmm, i'm pretty confused on this one!

Post your values for the LFO.  If it's biased correctly and you've got the phase-shift network wired up ok, then you'll probably need to sub in a trannie with higher gain to kickstart oscillation.

assuming that my jfet: SK9460
has the same pinout that the cross on the NTE site: http://www.nteinc.com/graphics/diag9f.gif

i should be in business.. i have the legs twisted so that the gate is connected to depth lug 2... looking at the SK9460 from the top.. it is shaped like a "D".. with the source and gate twisted so that the gate is at the bottom... is it possible that the NTE site is wrong?
curious,

G: 1.87
S: 1.47

LED+ 8.97

Q3 would be the trannie that would need to be subbed if its gain isn't high enough.  However, first things first.  The bias looks iffy/I'm confused by your reading.  When you say 8.97V where are you measuring from?  Take measurements from Q3's collector.

You've only got a 0.4V difference between gate and source of Q1.  Seems like a pretty low threshold, but stranger things happen at sea...(probably ok)

edit: Are you still getting the blatty sound with the voltages you posted for Q1?  If so then something's up with this trannie.
