I used to do silkscreen printing in High School.  I have screens and all the supplies, I'd be interested in knowing what kind of ink and stuff you used if you have a minute to share.

Thanks much, Matt.

Hey Wiz what ink did you use ? Do you have to bake it ? Great stuff BTW.

I've been playing silk screening myself. I can make/burn the screens just fine but I'm having ink issues. I don't know if I have a fine enough thread count either. So for me I'm having the opposite problem from everyone else, I can make screens just not print well.

There are a few people who have done screen printing here. Maybe they can kick in a few bits of advice. Maybe theres a possible team up effort here.

Does mouser or DGS now have those types of jacks?
I have only been able to find those ones that screw from the inside so once the are solder they will not come off the chssiss unless you unsolder them.
I hate those buggers but the one pictured here don't have this flaw ata ll...much nicer!!
Killer box!

I would love to see a "This is how to screen-print effects" thread that could get moved into the FAQ as a one-stop-shop for this type of information. The more people that figure out how easy it is if you have the right equipment and supplies, the better. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. You do have to get the right situation initiated for that to happen though. :D

Yeah, I think they do, they just have so many to choose from. That's what bugs me about Mouser, so many choices. Smallbear seems to pare it down where I can deal with it, but I wish he did carry those DC jacks like the ones Wizard used.

Silkscreening makes for some really professional looking results. Is there a page anywhere that shows you how to do it and what kind of stuff you need to do it?

I was planning an article on this topic but it has been delayed until I can sort out my ink issues. I would be willing to offer up the screen preperation portion of such a FAQ.

That looks fantastic!  What are the hex screw dealies for?  They're a nice looking alternative to regular screws.

Quote from: Mark HammerGood idea and nice work.  I've been recommending this (power distribution box) to folks for ages.  That's almost $20 worth of jacks you have there!

Jason Stout

Ansil, where do you get them for $0.50 ? Thats better than any price I can find!

They hold the regulator IC and the bridge rectifier to the enclosure. The entire box is a big heat sink.

Here's the ink that I use. It could be used on PE, PP, Urea resin and metals. No baking is needed. There are so many kinds of inks, ask the supplier what kind of ink to use for your box.

The ink you see stays on the aluminum box very well after touching it, but could be removed using sand papers just like any commercial pedals did.

update:
This ink has been found removable with alcohol. I am using expensive Japanese epoxy inks now.

Thanks for the info and pictures, Wizard!

Interesting that on the bottle label there is a ',China' after Taiwan!. I guess it pays to be careful with things like that if you can possibly sell a lot of product to the mainland!

Smallbear and mouser are selling the plastic DC jack like mine,

I bought 100 pcs from a friend last time and cost only $0.43 (retail price)each.

But what you're looking at is not the same as what I am using. This one has the screw form inside. If I use this one in my power supply, there will be only  4 jacks per side. With screw from outside I can fit  as much as 5 jacks  per side. That's 10 jacks in total. Actually you can put 12 jacks if you really want to.

I wish I could help you guys bying DC jacks for low prices just as I do. But I have hard time finding out the Taiwanese manufacturer.
I DIY therefore I am.

puretube

thanx a lot though, for now already!

yes, the "screw from outside" is (next to the isolation) my
main concern.

For me, mouser and smallbear are not so interesting
for these products.

Very cool Andrew! 8) That would be appreciated by many for sure.

Screen printing is one of the "final frontiers" for the DIY pedal world.

Billy J,
Those DC jacks are also available at Fry's but they cost $2 each.
