Heyo,

I've got this old pedal, which I *think* is a coloursound fuzz wah, but it seems awfully old, with "paper" like capacitors , and huge coloured banded caps. Has a weird dualgang pot with a small lug at the opposites of where you'll normally find the lugs. Has fuzz, has wah. Needs a pot replacement though, but think i might have trouble finding one.

I don't have a place to host the picture, so ... anyone who can help, drop me a PM , and i'll send the photo to you, and hopefully can help host it here so everyone can see.

Thanks !

Just a suggestion, go to www.geocities.com that'll give you free hosting for your pics. ;)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

I've never been into dating Fuzzes, I'm more of a leg man myself.

Just kidding. If you send me the picture, I'll host it on my personal web space and post it here.

It wouldn't be a Jax, would it? I think those are Japanese made, and the look kind of funky - square bottoms, not rounded. The insides look quite different than a vintage Vox wah.

Hopefully this works, geocities usually has some small transfer limit and then the picture dies ?

Anyway here's the picture. The battery clip looks awfully old...I remember the exterial looking like a coloursound (i've since painted it, cause it was all rusted ant tattered).

Maybe if people pasted the url in their browser?

Looks like a colorsound/solasound type of pedal to me.

Well, that doesn't look like one that Jax made. You're right, the dual ganged pot thing is going to be a pain...

Dating pedals!  you guys are getting too obsessive...

Hey, thanks cody for hosting it.

anyway nobody has put a date to it yet ?
just curious, cause, mmm it seems well awfully old...

And dualgang pots with a small tab at the side, anyone seen them for sale ?

zachary vex

the case construction (thin stamped steel with stops stamped out as well) and plastic lever connection to the pot using a sliding pin in a slot clearly indicate colorsound construction.

That thing IS from The Good 'Ol Days for certain.
Very Interesting!!! Does It Function Properly?

I have that those Colorsound wahs can sound really good, even comparable to a vintage Vox V847 with "the good inductors".

Hope you can get it working.

Colorsound fuzz-wahs, in the "wide" case, only made in the mid to late 70's...they usually came in yellow, aqua blue and few others...info courtesy of Steve Macari

Yeah Colorsound wahs are great! Although the early wah-only models had a different and IMO better sounding inductor, as well as a better quality and tapered pot...

that is probably an early one, the components look identical to my 1975 supa-TB

BTW why do I have to scroll across
the whole fricken screen to read this??

My coloursound is nothing like an old Vox, but equally great. More of a Shaft-theme thing.
Every single dual ganged pot I've seen in any wah pedals is/was exclusively used for wah on pot # 1 and volume on # 2 (only used in "bypass")
hih

thanks guys, at least now i'm sure this's an old colorsound fuzz/wah

mike, you're right, actually it is a volume pedal when the wah is off too.

The thing works fine, it fuzzes (pretty nice sounding, not too harsh, but its it fixed fuzz, nothing tuneable), it wahs (i wouldn't say exactly thick sounding, but i'm sure its thicker than gcb95). But pot seems to be scratchy/worn out, some parts of the rotation, it doesn't seem to "catch".

mmm when i get around to fixing it up, i might just throw away the volume part, and get a normal single gang pot for the wah.

Some of them came with a trimpot on the board to control the amount of fuzz...and the scheme for this is floating around somewhere and it wouldn't be hard to add one, or mod the fuzz circuit for that matter...the fuzz in mine sounded pretty good when the intensity was turned down a bit...

to me the volume part of it's pretty weak anyways, it's a good idea to go with just the wah IMO...try to find an old Allen Bradley 100K pot they work great in Colorsounds

Because the picture is set to come out big, but how or why I can't say.
I don't know if it is possible to tweak the software to make pics 'automagically' fill the screen width??

Absolutely. You can tweak your pix to be any size you want. Just reduce the pixels and you won't have poster-size pix any more :)

I use photoshop but your camera should have it's own software that came with it...
