I'd like to build myself a back up power supply for my mutron.  Is there a schematic online somewhere?

mikeb

Not that I know of (and I usually have a good eye for those things). It would be pretty simple though; any decent repair person could draw you up an AC -> +/-9VDC supply schematic.

MutronIIIs need a +/-9V supply.....

So you're saying the one crawler486 suggested won't work?

I realized something after I posted this...I have a Pedal Power II...I guess I could hook up 2 of the outlets on that straight to the 2 battery clips on my mutron.

Is there some way I could use the power jack on the mutron and hook that up to my pedal power?

I would build this one:

Just use 9V regulators instead of 15V as shown. And when you build it (anyway which kind) note that positive and negative regulators have different pinouts!!! (I once made a mistake  )
god said...
∇ ⋅ D = ρ
∇ x E = - ∂B/∂t
∇ ⋅ B = 0
∇ x H = ∂D/∂t + j
...and then there was light

Is there somebody who knows what the schematic was for the original ps-1 power supply for the MuTron III?
There must be somebody that has one and opened it up.
I have a 1975 Mutron III with a power supply that somebody made in probably the 80's. I wanna know how it should have been.
I need to find out what caused my MuTron to die.

Quick thought on this, one could make a teeny little box that took regular 9v pedal power and ran a charge pump (like the LT1054, not the miserable max1044) to invert the voltage, and output +9, -9, and ground to the special funny plug on the pre AC powered Mu-Tron III's.

Take my word, there's nothing special about the original power supply.  I have a couple AC powered mu-trons (the wah, and the phasor II), and they hum a little, because the PSU's don't use regulators.

Both of my mu-trons didn't work right when I got them, and replacing the electrolytics as well as resoldering every single joint with a bit of fresh solder worked miracles.  The particular solder they used, I've heard from others, has had a tendency to get strange over time.

Hey thanks for your reply!

I am just curious how it is and if my power supply has maybe some of the old original components.
So I can kindof date the components also.

Could you make some pics of the guts of your PS-1? Also for posterity sake.

Oh, no, sorry, I don't have a real Mu-Tron III, just some of their other pedals.

Kas2

Ah, but don't they use the PS-1 original power supply?
