Seems like Power Supplies are inherently noisier than batteries?
I've tried a few DIY's with Wallwart, and the noise is unnacceptable.
Are there certain circuits that don't mind PS's so much as others do, or is my Wallwart a noisey one?
I would like to PS some of the efkts I have, but I'm ending up with more questions.
I know alot of you guys are using Ps's...what would you recommend I try?

not 2 specific re the "noise".
is it "switching" noise?
is it opamp noise(hiss)?
60cycle(or 50cycle) noise?
mayB U just have a bad gnd?

I'll have to give it another go and try to fit the noise into a finer category.
Definitely hum, like 60 cycles I would guess [since it's there and likely to be getting in] goes like Hummmm.
the Hiss factor may have gone up too, what would the possible fixes for these two types of noise be like?

i've also experianced this hum...and i ususally just use batteries.  Easier anyway, and i dont go though _that_ many.

I hear that switchline (or something) adapters are better than transformers in respect to this.  never tried 'em myself, though.

Power supplies can hum more than batteries because
(a) they may have ripple voltage from rectification at either 60Hz (half wave rectified) or 120Hz (full wave rectified) and lack regulation
(b) they bring 60Hz AC power near the effects where it can couple into signal lines either capacitively or magnetically
(c) they establish loops which can pick up 60Hz hum directly in the grounding wires.

A whole lot of this is in the power supply articles at GEO, especially the Spyder power supply article and the hum free signal splitter article.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

The power supply that is on RG's website I've used for a few years now and couldn't be happier and built four others for friends and they couldn't be happier. I'd hate to ever have to go back to batteries and unplugging the input of my effects every time I was done playing. Pete, it sounds like your wall warts aren't filtered, a lot of wall warts aren't filtered or filtered properly for audio anyway. Check  http://www.geofex.com  for the details, its cheap and super easy to build.
