Can someone enlighten a newbie?

THANKS!

jfets are junction field effect transistors.  typical units are 2N3819 and the ever-popular J201.  difets aren't very common but do appear inside some opamps (a type of integrated circuit).  mosfets are metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors.  they are used a lot in low-powered logic chips.  they also make nice amplfying transistors for guitar circuits, but they are susceptible to damage from static electricity so certain precautions should be observed.

on another note, how are they pronounced when you read them out ?

jfet - Jay-FET ?
mosfet - MOS-FET ?
difet - DI-FET ?
