It took a minute to find that the Jfets used are critical.
Fortunately [I'm 'bout out of Jfets] I did find 2 MPF102's that biased nicely and allow the circuit to provide a modest boost.
After a DIST+, the Jfet smoothness and drive is instantly noticed and liked. The combo sounds very nice, the + was a 'sleeper', just a bit ragged, this one.
I pulled the two .01uf's to ground in the middle [treble voicing sections] of the schematic, tried that for a minute, [cool but trebly of course and Treble knob deactivated], then replaced them with a .0033uf and .001uuf, this gave the high end a way out, and voiced the treble knob closer to what I think I like. Further testing is necessary...
However it IS really good sounding, and the control knobs and caps allow tuning on pedals [like the DIST+ for instance] that have no tone control, as well as adding thickness to lows and mids, and adjustable smoothness to the highs.
The modest added gain goes very well with the DIST+, and widens the sound, as well as tunable variations.
A nice build, not hard, Really helped out the sound of the DIST+, for my tastes.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
