Hello everyone,

I have been a lurker on this board since the beginning of April when I decided to get into electronics, but I did post on this board one other time about a week or two ago about soldering irons & meters...anyway...

I did a mock up of the infamous "Electra" from http://www.j.philpott.com/effectronics/
(you know, the one that is talked about ALL the time in the newbie forum - Aron's first build also)

I did not think that it sounded as "bad" as everyone complains about, but I did take it off the b-board. just because it was my first build I don't need to commit it to a box ;-)

Last night I did this variation last night http://www.geocities.com/j4_student/4trans.gif

I used 1N914 in place of the 1N34a's & I did not add the 5k pot - this thing is a behemoth of sound!! I love how wild/out of control it can get. I am going to play with this one for awhile-like add the 134a's which should mellow it out a bit, play with some of the cap & resitor values - maybe even some lower Hfe gain trans, and I need to add the output volume pot to play with the combination of what I would guess it a "drive/gain" pot in the input stage & an overall volume control at the output.

Any Mod suggestions any of you what to contribute are VERY welcome! It is the experts like you all that helped me sit down and right off the bat have a successful build. SO I SAY THANK YOU TO ALL

*****P.S. for beginners....something that Aron has on may occasions said very politely in the beginers forum - READ, READ, READ! Read the boards by searching with the tool at the top of the page - got questions about x#x#x? Put some keywords in up there. Read the FAQ's on this site and other that you can vist through the links page. Read MOD tip write- ups for more understanding of how all these componets interact with each other!

Take care and hope to get some Mod suggestions for this! http://www.geocities.com/j4_student/4trans.gif

Yes Joe! I also built that one once. Still have it in a small hammond box in the studio. Use it for SOLID metal chops!!!
It's still good! :)

Thanks for posting Joe!

I tried to find Joe Davisson related to electronic circuits a couple weeks ago when I decided to do this Schem, but did not find you ...I found that you did have JoeDavisson.com for awhile? Anyway, I am glad you have a site and look forward in building some of the projects & reading future articles and news bits :-)
