Hi! I'd built this tonigth and i'm very impressed... :o I'm still a newbie but..
it sounds  .....and it sounds very good to my ears! I don't have any j201 by the moment but i i have a bunch of mpf102's and 2n5457's that will make the job ok i think...at least untill i get some j201's.

The circuit is the crunch channel of the carvin legacy tube amp (yes, Steve Vai's own) and i'd copied it part by part using 2n5457's instead the 12ax7 tubes and like meteor and the runoffgroove's emulations i'd adedd two simple rc filters at the end as an intend of emulate the response of the speakers...

The sound; well i don't know how can sound a carvin legacy amp in the reality    the demo at the carvin's site is not ONLY the amp...and i don't have one of this to compare...sorry!
The sound is very impressive for me, now is too late (3:00) and i can't turn the volume knob enough to make a "serious" review of it, but it sounds very fine at low volume! the tone control is a 3 knobs baxandall type (i think) and it seems to works very fine...i think it sounds bluesy :roll:sorry but now is dificult for me to explain this.... tomorrow i'll record some clips and i'll post them for you!

Thanks to Doug Hammond and the guys at Runoffgroove for your work and for share it! and thanks Marcelo for the schematic file!

Which amp would that be? I Have a Musician's Tube model VTR2800 100W , 2 channel, 7-band graphic EQ, spring reverb, and full/half power switch through an old Acoustic 6X10" cabinet. Mostly use the clean channel overdriven with an EPFM preamp or a PAIA AxeGrinder boost. (Could never use the full power...too LOUD!) Would be interested in sound clips when availiable.

Congrats on your build :D

Buenisimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mi pedido se hizo realidad, pasame el circuito o subilo en algun site asi lo veo y lo armo.

My dreams come true!!! try to post the schem to build it, might be cool that Mr. ROG and/or Doug compare it to the original schem and maybe take it closer if you leave something to improve.

Congratulations and of course, we are waiting that samples.

Saludos, Marcelo.
Fuzz boxes don't need on/off switch!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Lucas!  Very well done!  I look forward to soundclips.

I HAVE THE SAME AMP!   Cool!  I used to have two, but traded one for a Squire JV Strat.  In fact, I have only seen two, and both were mine!

I have the owners manual saved to a pdf file if you want it.
Q: What do you get when you cross an owl with a bungee cord?

A: My Ass

please post sound clips sometime... im keen to hear this thing!

Lucas Grijande

:D  Thanks to all!

I'm working on those samples, i hope i'll can make a few takes tomorrow and post them...
I have an schematic file too, actually i'm working with Gringo to make it more "decent" and maybe a layout and pcb files will be available in the next days...

Again sorry for my poor english...

Now you've got the idea. :D  :D

You can apply this technique to a lot of different amps.

Congratulations! Look forward to hearing the clips. :D

Definitely want to hear the audio clips.  Where can I get a hold of the Carvin Legacy schematic?

If used as an fx pedal, why simulate speakers?? or is this to compensate for more highs when using fets?

Lucas Grijande

Well...I have a BAD sample of the "Leegazzy"
But i can't upload it because i'm not able to access the site when i'd uploaded all my mp3's in the past (http://www.hispasonic.com/)...sorry! Maybe tomorrow i'll can do it.... I hope...

If you want emulate the sound of an amp, you'll want emulate the speakers response of that amp too, since the speakers are a important piece in the result sound i think...althoug you are going to use other guitar speakers when use this the overall sound is more similar IMHO but is only MY OPINION! Maybe i'm not the most capacited to tell you this!

The VL100 & VL212 series i think...

P.S Good news! In the next days a pcb express file and a eschematic will be available courtesy of our friend Gringo!

Again thanks to all!

Dutchie

Love to see the scematic too!!

saw Steve the other day ( yes, vai ) the other day...got a nice masterclass. he brought 2 amps, i think it where legacy 212's for stereo fx

he used a ts-9 as a booster in front of it and a g-major for delay and what not....i must say i wasnt really impressed with the sound of his setup, but that's a matter of taste, isnt it.
nice technique though. real freak hehe

not really impressed with the sound? but similar to his records?

Grigo has made a great job with the pcb and the schematic file...you can find this on his web, here are the links:

Well, i added a link to all the files at the downloads page of my site, just in case.

http://gr1ng0.tripod.com/Downloads/dl.html

I have a previous version of the layout that was too big, about 10cmx 3cm (4" x 1.2"), the "release" one being 7cm x 3.5cm. It's a little less tight as a consequence, so if anyone asks, i'll mail it.

Have fun!

I still believe "sound" and "tone" comes from the fingers.
great amps and fx of course help to get what you want, but you're personality is in your fingers, what i'm trying to say is the "vai sound" cant be made with the same setup.

no matter what i play..i always sound as me...thank god i do..hehe

i do agree but i do belive that someone can get very beliveable close to the sound if you learn to copy the nuances of your favorite player..

Dutchie

yes sure, but do you want to???

As guitar playing is my "work" i try to be "me" all the time, i dont say thats so special but it's nice when ppl hear a recording or what not and can hear its me.

Now i got my degree in music, i'm trying to find again the entusiasm i had when i was 15. i got a mind full of theory, technique, what can and cant be done....aaaaarrghh the conservatory got to me.... i got no hero's any more...for instance..even Vai is just another guitar player to me..nice dude..but nothing special.....

hmmm sorry for this of topic blabla
