This amp is next on my list of things to do.  I plan on doing it on perf and I'm working on a layout right now.  Was wondering how it sounds without the boost stage?  I plan on using my pedals with it and I generally only use one channel amps.  Would I be OK to eliminate the first stage?  It looks like it is bypassed on the schematic anyway, but a DPDT switches is in and out.  Probably a better question, would I be missing out on a really good distortion sound?  I have tons of pedals (like most of you guys I'm sure) for distortions and am really jaded against amp distortion.  Thanks for your suggestions,
Rory

It looks like if I eliminate the boost section I can also eliminate Tube 1, R15, and C11 as well.

Ok, under even closer inspection (I'm 99% done with my layout), it appears that I need just one power transformer as well.  Heres a real question, I have a 125E output transformer, can I use this in place of the 125A?  From what I found at the Hammond site, I can't see why I couldn't, but I'm no professional.

I built the Firefly. The boost section can give you some really good distortion tones, and it increases the volume some. You could just omit the boost section, if that's what you want. I think that you could use Hammond 125E without any problem, it just has a higher wattage rating.
