Sorry, but I can't rate the change on a better or worse kind of scale. All I can say is different. I have crappy speakers though. It sounds less egdey to me, but I kind of look for edge in the tone.

I think you're quite right that everything makes a big difference in how these clips come out. Does everybody mic their builds with a SM57 off some standard cabinet/speaker configuration.... I wish. With the amount of filtering that goes on between an effect output and a computer speaker I count sound samples as a very general representation only.
