Matching FETs...?

I'm building a Phase 45 for my wife using the Tonepad.com layout.  It says that for the best phasing sound I should use matching FETs.  What exactly does this mean?  Two of the same transistors (2N5952s is what the layout says) or two transistors with matching output (if that's the term)?

If they need to have matching output, how do I test them (I have a $20 Radio Shack Multimeter, to use the term loosely)?

Thanks

Danny, RG has a nice article about matching transistors on his site,
