I have one of these but I'd like to build one and sell mine. I was wondering if there are any PCB layouts other than the one on GGG. The reason is I'd like to fit one into a Hamond BB. Do they run on 18volts dc?
If so, the power rectifying section could be eliminated and the size of the PCB could be reduced.
How would one go about redoing a PCB for this pedal using a schematic that has had the power section removed?
Many questions, not enough pedalboard space.

Feeling a little neglected here.
Nothing?

Well... you could just remove the power section including regulation etc etc and just have the circuit itself left. Then you add a DC jack for however many volts the thing wants.
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Tim Larwill, here in Ottawa, has been able to successfully produce a CE-1 clone and package it in a 1590BB without problems, using the move-the-power-outside strategy you identify.  I can't see any difference in space requirements between a DEM and a CE-1, so it should be feasible.  Of course, you're pretty much on your own as far as working out a PCB layout goes.

Near as I can tell, the DEM runs off of 15vdc.  Earlier battery-based models used a pair of 9v batteries, but that was more to assure that something like 15v was obtainable for a while as the batteries ran down, rather than any need to have a steady 18v in there.  Certainly indications of the audio path don't suggest any need for more than 15vdc.

Adapting the board contents to omit power supply simply means removing the relevant diodes and caps, although quite frankly, the space savings, given how small 220uf caps can be these days, is not huge.  16mm pots, moving the transformer outside, vertically oriented resistors, caps selected for size, and conservative board layout should make it quite easy to stick everything...and maybe even a little more, with mods...into a 1590BB.

There, feeling a little less neglected?

Hmmm, this sounds rather interesting. Did he use the original ic's? Do you know if he has a pcb layout available?

BDuguay

Thanks Mark!
As far as redoing the layout, is it a matter of just going at it, or is there any programs/software that would make the job less tasking?
BTW, we played that festival again this year, this time we were on before Kim Mitchell.
What a pro!

Maybe you can leave some off the pcb and do that point to point as mentioned early this week.

Brian,

Tim's clone is a commercial product (very favourably reviewed on H-C, I might add) so I doubt that he'd share a layout.

Congrats on the gig.  Last time it was David Wilcox, and this time Kim Mitchell.  What is it about your band?  Do they only open for bald guys?  On the other hand, not such a bad specialization.  A few more years and you can open for Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.  Hell, the Tragically Hip are halfwaythere, aren't they?
