I just finished a A/B/Y BOX and a looper, here are the pics

A/B/Y BOX

Looper

Hope you guys like them as much as I do.
I used silk screen printing again this time, but with different type of ink. It's epoxy ink that I've been using these days. You really have to try epoxy inks if you're intreated in silk screening.
I DIY therefore I am.

Is it possible I like them MORE than you do?
Nice job!
Is that silk screening?
Where did you get the in/out jacks?

Yes it's silk screening. These jacks are almost the same as NEUTRIK M-Line  phone jacks. I get them from a Taiwaness Company "SC" for very low price.
This company is a major DC jack supplier arround the world. I 've seen many "SC" DC jacks in  many pedals.

You can get NEUTRIK M-Line jacks from mouser. I got some of them, too. Very good quality!

I haven't heard of epoxy inks. I've been looking at enamal inks. How do epoxy ink differ ? Where did you get the ink ? Can it be shipped overseas ?

GREAT looking stuff BTW. :)

Very good inspiration.

Great look.

I began working on a new version of my A/B Box I built a while ago, and I must say that I would be glad if mine could look like that.

Back to the drawing board...

Wow!  That looks awesome.  Please tell us where to get the tools required to do such a thing.  How did you make the screen?  You must have used some software of some sort, huh?  It looks completely professional.

Hi Andrew,
I am using Japanese epoxy inks.

It's for printing metal , aluminum and plastics, too. After baking under 120°C for 30 minutes, it became very tough and solvent resistant. But it's very expensive comparing to other inks.

I get this ink from a Taiwanese company "http://www.screenprinting.com.tw/mingtai/profile.asp".
The solvent is flammable so I think you shoud ask your local supplier for other epoxy inks instead of buying them overseas.

I didn't make the screens myself. You'll need professional equipments to make a professional screen, that means lots of money. So I would rather spend little money for a professional screen. I first draw all the graphics with CorelDraw and then have it printed on a clear celluloid film. Then take this film to the silk screening supplier to make the screens for me.  It costs me about $3-$5 for the film and $10-$20 for the screen, depending on their sizes.

Silk screening is fun but $$$$$.

check this site out to see what is available for manual printing job. A handbook is needed for a better understanding of silk screening. The more you know about silk screening, the better result you'll get.

Hi  nirvanas silence,

Here's the link http://www.scpre.com.tw/.

Don't forget to order extra washers just in case that the thickness of your panel is far less than 4 mm.

I put 3 washers for a 1.65 mm panel.

I felt in love with that kind of jacks since I bought the older model (MK II) of this direct box...

http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/scripts/products.php?mode=prod&id=32

...except that you have to unsolder those on one side of the box to take the pcb out. That's what I had to do to take a look at the parts inside that box.

But when you build your own effects, you can choose where you put them

I Love this kind of jacks , too. I am using solder lug type not pcb type. A copper wire of 1.6 mm in diameter was used as the ground bus. So I chose solder lug type to make it easer to solder since it holds the ground bus for me.

Cool! I didn't know/noticed that there was a solder lug version of the same jack.  :D
