Potentiometer Bushings?

I'm looking at some pots and the descriptions for one says that it has a 3/8" bushing, and another pot says it has an 8mm bushing (0.31").

Now, what does the bushing refer to?  Is it the height of the threaded portion?

Bushing is the threaded part, and the 3/8 or whatever tells you what size of hole the bushing will fit into.
