Is it possible to build a tube amp which runs entirely on wall warts? I'm  paranoid about frying myself on mains power you see...  :|

Glad you liked the site!

Sorry for being very quiet recently.  Been busy with a lot of different things.  First up when I get back to the Sopht amps is going back to the 12AL8.  Basically, I was getting an ugly 'gating' type sound.  I think that it stems from the fact that the input into the triode of the 12AL8 was a bit too high.  Putting a voltage divider before hitting the 12AL8 triode might help it.  Anyways, I should get back to the amps shortly.

Cheers,
Stephane.

i designed the nano head completely around a 12 volt dc wall wart that supplies 1.25 amps.

when operating, the unit draws exactly .5 amps.

Hi Zachary,

From my understanding, you using switching to increase the voltage fed to the plates, right?  The tubes are not operating at 12V on the plates.

Thanks,
Stephane.
