What I want is something that goes from 100k to 0k...automatically.
I'm finding I think that the most popular way is with a LED LDR,...I'm wondering there isn't some other widget that can do this...

problems with capacitance?

Plus, I've had to throw out perfectly fixable things because of that goop - I hate the stuff!!!

Just buy a box intended for RF circuits, with the special lip that impedes RF coming into the box via the "chinks" in it's amour.

I had thought about that before but as much as i like to change and modify things and have to find a way through both the paint and goop. If i was certain  the effect was done and completed that may seem like a great idea ..iesp if you sell the effect and dont want it rev. engnrd. At least theyd have to really earn it then.

I thought i was replying to the thread about adding goop and paint--sorry...

A CMOS bilateral switch across a 100k resistor should allow you to go from 100k to about 150R(@9v) when you turn the switch on.  I don't know how much current you are hoping to pass through your circuit though.
There seems to already be a thread going about the 4066 chip.  Might pay to check it out.
